The Corbet Vernon tomb[edit]

"...chest tombs bearing effigies of the Corbet family - one with eighteen children portrayed and one with a single baby in swaddling clothes with rose and lily"

This may be true, and it was certainly the impression I also received from visiting the church, but I'm not at all sure. Sir Robert's will, available at [1] only mentions three sons and four daughters living in 1513. Add one dead, and who are all the others? There are certainly 3 male figures, in armour, and angels at each corner, but there are just too many figures on the tomb for them all to be children of Robert and Elizabeth - unless, of course, Elizabeth remarried and had more children, and they are included, but I can't find anything about this. Can anyone elucidate? Until then, I've been very cautions about labelling some of the funerary images.

John Marius Wilson Gazeteer entry - a suspected incomplete sentence (section Village)[edit]

The last sentence in the quoted entry looks suspiciously as if there has been some words omitted in transcription just before the final word (between Corbets and charities): Several mills are on the Roden, the church is ancient; has a tower and several stained windows; and contains ancient effigies and monuments of the Corbets charities". Somebody please check this against the printed version.Cloptonson (talk) 18:42, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
