Unsourced claims[edit]

As well as tidying up the references in the section on "Mass hysteria", I've tagged the article as unreferenced and removed the paragraphs "Popularity" and "Criticism": if anyone can find some sources for the claims in those sections, please feel free to restore them and add the references.
