Name it MolecularEntity or ChemicalEntity[edit]

User Wipur added ", or chemical entity", on 15:40, 24 March 2020 see [version]. It is completely foggy as to why the IUPAC Gold Book lists this as molecular entity as defined in the corresponding IUPAC Recommendation, though this Gold Book entry also describes the ensemble as a chemical species but not molecular species. Moreover, the molecular entity, following IUPAC Gold Book, includes "Any constitutionally or isotopically distinct atom, molecule, ion, ion pair, radical, radical ion, complex, conformer etc., identifiable as a separately distinguishable entity", though ions are not necessarily molecules. I highly support Wipurs edit to call this a chemical entity rather than a molecular entity here, while discussions on terminology need to continue within IUPAC. --2003:CB:8738:57E9:78EB:977:594D:F3C1 (talk) 08:46, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
