List of digital camera modes[edit]
I've created an article about this, but inadvertently named it List of digital camera formats; I'm hoping (and have requested, and repeat the request here) that somebody will rename it, as this is something I've not done in Wikipedia.
Digital camera modes are often not documented in detail in manuals, so you don't know exactly what's happening with shutter, focussing, etc. As far as I know there's no comprehensive resource that gives this information. I'm hoping that this list will become an increasingly comprehensive list of detailed camera information. Entries something like (examples obviously made up!):
Portrait mode:
- Generally uses widest aperture possible for the light conditions, 100ASA sensitivity, often recognises and autofocusses on a face if less than 4m from camera, white balance daylight, will not use fill-in flash under bright conditions.
- Nikon 10000E to 12123F use f/2.8, spot exposure metering
- 10000AE additionally dangles a toy bird above camera to get babies to smile
- Canon ABC1 uses center-weighted metering
- Nikon 10000E to 12123F use f/2.8, spot exposure metering

- I moved the page (see the "Move" button next to the "Edit this page" and "History" buttons. I also put the information of the new page in the appropriate parts of the article. But this info maybe would be more of Wikibook; remember that it has to be encyclopedic. Althepal (talk) 23:35, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. Pretty obvious; I somehow thought that moving a page ought to be more difficult, but will know for the future. I'll have to look at Wikibook, which I know nothing about. My criteria for justifying a new article is more or less "Would I find this information useful?" and "Is it at least as significant as List of Star Wars spacecraft?", which probably is not Wikipolitically correct. - One thing I want to point out about page moving is that it only works if there are two or less edits to that page; if there are more, there is an area on Wikipedia.org to ask an admin to do it. For Wikipedia, articles need to be encyclopedic, interesting, cited, and notable. You can refer official places as to what star wars ships there are, and I'm sure people find that interesting. Wikibooks are more like books, something that is just useful for people, not necessarily an encyclopedia article. If a bunch of people are going to do original research and give lots of information about different camera settings on lots of different cameras, that might be more of a Wikibooks thing, and you need another Wikibook account. But a list of common modes might be fine, or it might just be fine to be a part of Mode dile. Althepal (talk) 01:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks again. I suppose my idea of this page is asking for original research (people who've investigated their own cameras) unless the information has been published by someone (e.g on the Web). Fair use rationale for Image:Ko-dx7630-3.jpg[edit]
Image:Ko-dx7630-3.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
