Minnesota Stars[edit]

As a kid many years ago, I have the faint memory of the North Stars being called the Stars shortly before moving to Dallas but I noticed that this article makes no mention of it. Did this actually happen or is my mind playing memory tricks on me? Masterhatch 15:55, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, according to nhluniforms.com, they used the current "stars" logo in 1991-92 and 1992-93. I'm not sure if the name changed as well. ccwaters 16:07, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I'm fairly certain that they were the North Stars until the end. It wouldn't have been such an obscure piece of a trivia if it did happen. Its the logo change that you're thinking of. ccwaters 18:50, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm stating something thats already been said but they DID change their logo to the current Dallas Stars logo, but were never known as the "Stars" till they moved to Dallas. DavidReject

Actually Masterhatch, you're correct; the North Stars owners had wanted the club to be called the Minnesota Stars at the start of the 1991-92 season (I was 20 years old then). However ,people in the sports media continued to call the team the North Stars and the old name stuck until the move to Dallas. GoodDay 18:25, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was and still am an avid hockey fan in the "State of Hockey" and watched the North Stars from the beginning. When Norm Green got total control of the Minnestoa North Stars he wanted a new stadium and then got into the sexual harassment thing. My belief is before the start of the 91-92 season he had already decided to move the team to Dallas. He made the announcement that he was going to change the team name to simply the Stars, because he recognized that Minnestoa is called the North Star State (That's how they got there name to begin with) and Texas is called the Lone Star State. He changed the uniform from the N with the star to just the star in that year. After they left everybody went back to calling them the North Stars and that's the only memorabilia that’s important here in MinnestoaCHamersma 19:16, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This a classic example of the run on sentence. This is all over the place and has 500 different thoughts throw in.

Captaincy vacant, in 1989-90[edit]

I've seen video clips (can't source them here) of the Minnesota North Stars 1989-90 season & playoffs (recently on NHLnetwork's Classic series - 1990 Blackhawks vs North Stars). The North Stars had no captain, they dressed 3 alternate captains - Gavin, Giles and McRae. I've made correction at this pages 'team captain' section. GoodDay 18:55, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Contradicting the video I've seen, I'm reversing my edits. North Stars sources and site have Giles as captain during the 1989-90 season. There's something wrong, somewhere. GoodDay 20:55, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dallas Stars?[edit]

There is no reason for the Minnesota North Stars to be separate from the Dallas Stars. The Dallas Stars retain the North Stars history. I believe they should be merged. --Kitch (Talk : Contrib) 14:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Curt Giles status in 1991 Finals[edit]

During the 1991 Finals (if not the entire playoffs) Curt Giles wore an A as an alternate captain (infact, the North Stars went with 3 alternate captains - no captain). Yet we've got Giles listed as 'captain' 1989-91. Does anybody know what's up with Giles' captaincy status during that season ('90-'91)? GoodDay (talk) 20:01, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

crowds[edit]

Is this correct: "An all-time record Met Center crowd of 15,962 squeezed into every nook and cranny of the arena, which was the largest crowd to ever witness a hockey game in Minnesota to that time." Merge of the Cleveland Barons, and dismember of the San Jose Sharks[edit]

there is no info on that NS merger with the Barons, or their dissolution in the early 90's. Broten needs some work (love)[edit]

Just a few points. - Neal Broten in the Team Leaders section only has an active link on his first mention. Maniago also has active links on all except his last mention on that list - Notable players - clarification on the hall of fame. There are the two of the them (don't want to start that argument here) but Broten was inducted in 2000 - Broten's jersey (7) was in fact retired. This occurred in 1998 after the move to Dallas but it was for his contributions to the North stars (and other teams) MnHockeyDude (talk) 13:48, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Broten's retired number is already noted in the article, but when all is said and done the North Stars never retired it. As far as listing him in the Hall of Fame deal and removing Maniago's excess linkage, feel free. Ravenswing 18:27, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
