Notable genre?[edit]

I don't believe that the "minimusical" is a notable genre separate from musical theatre in general. I suggest deleting this article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:31, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Then you haven't researched the issue. Do a google search Mini+Musical and you can tell this has been a term used for at least 30 years. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 18:58, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, now I have done several searches. No one agrees what a minimusical is. Some sources say it is an original work of 10 minutes or so for classrooms or concerts. Some say it is a shortened adaptation of a real musical. Some say it is a few existing songs woven into an original story. It seems that any short work with songs and dialogue can be called a mini-musical. It's not a "genre", just a convenient description. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:27, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not notable enough for its own article; should be merged into Musical. If the section happens to then grow larger than is wieldy, it could be factored out again as an article, but I don't see that happening. Right now, this article is a form of excess content-forking. (By the way, since there are multiple definitions of the so-called "minimusical", would the 28-minute Cricket count as one?) Softlavender (talk) 04:15, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. Do the creators describe it as such? Does the press describe it as such in reviews? If not, then I'd say "no". -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:46, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to go ahead with the merge, but please only add info to the Musical theatre article that is referenced to WP:Reliable sources. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:48, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, heehee, I'm not interested in doing the merge, since I haven't had anything to do with the Musical theatre article that I recall. I just saw this tiny article and discussion and wanted to add my vote. I think a simply cut & paste would start the merge, but I'm not the person to do it, not being an editor on that article, and also not familiar with how to delete an article after merging. Actually, the key content in this article is already contained in the Musical theatre article under the section "Distinctions and overlap with opera; other forms". -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:25, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
