Why was this page moved?[edit]

Mike Evans has never gone by the full name "Michael Leeroyall Evans", and there is apparently no other basketball-related individual named Mike Evans. Why the page-move? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!--Downwards 01:01, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Move stemmed from untangling several Mike Evans/Michael Evans articles. The photographer had separate articles for each. Michael Evans is the name of a recently deceased creator of Good Times and a character on that show. There are two Mike Evans who are boxers. Where known, it seemed best to use full names to disambiguate articles and combine the Mike Evans/Michael Evans disambiguation pages so readers find all related articles in one place. This is per MoS on hndis page. Jokestress 01:31, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It was not in the slightest way tangled. How was Mike Evans (basketball) confused with anyone else name Mike Evans (or Michael Evans for that matter)? There is no other Mike Evans basketball person, so why should the title not exist in its present state? In this instance, we are not concerned here with Michael Evans. Frankly I couldn't care less about the other Mike Evans you've moved but the former Denver Nuggets coach we are presently discussing has never been referred to as Michael Leeroyall Evans (it's just his full birth name), always as Mike Evans, and should be referenced thusly. If anything, all you had to do was merge Mike Evans (disambiguation) with Michael Evans (disambiguation), and not streamline all the titles to suit the ideals of some rashly-conceived brand of conformity. Although technicallly you've broken no set rules, read the sentence which pretty much aligns with my main point: the article title should generally be the name by which the subject is most commonly known Regards, --Downwards 02:49, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There was another Michael Evans who was a 1995 NBA draft candidate and pro player, but I don't feel especally strongly about the disambiguation. If you want to change the page name and any double redirects, you are welcome to. Jokestress 05:41, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed that (basketball) is a better formula (even per WP:MOS). We say John Madden (football) and John Madden (hockey), not their full names, unless they're well known by that name (see George W. Bush). BTW, please set up a discussion properly on this page, as explained as WP:RM, or no one will want to close this discussion. Patstuarttalk|edits 19:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
