Hu12, Please explain your edits. The Link to the International Labour Organization's website "Global Information on Microinsurance" falls into all the wikipedia links criteria. Morillons (talk) 10:14, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

URL redirection sites are not to be used per External links policy. Your contributions to wikipedia consist mainly of adding external links. Looking through your contributions as a whole, the majority seem to be microinsurance.org related only. You're here to improve Wikipedia -- not just to promote microinsurance.org right? --Hu12 (talk) 10:35, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is true that I could be doing more writing: I am working on making more thorough contributions. But adding the microinsurance website of a United Nations agency (the International Labour Organization) should perhaps not be seen as negative promotion: no commercial services are offered and no donations are requested. Besides, these are very widely recognised institutions as they have support from most states, many employers' organizations, and meany trade unions. I just thought that it would bring readers the opportunity to research more in-depth from a controlled and credible source. --Morillons (talk) 11:09, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a close connection to International Labour Organization, you may have a conflict of interest. However, URL redirection sites are not to be used. Why are you pushing a url that redirects to the ILO website?--Hu12 (talk) 11:22, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation about redirection sites. I am doing an internship at the International Labour Organization on the issue of health micro-insurance amongst other things. In any case, as on many social topics, it seems crucial that the point of view of our Organization (a UN agency) be represented in a wikipedia article. Especially since the other views expressed might come from other organizations with different perspectives. Morillons (talk) 14:52, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

Why has health been deleted from the categories ? A very large part of microinsurance is health micorinsurance... In addition, the article makes references to the World Health Organization... Morillons (talk) 14:52, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was just too broad a category, but I should have refined it myself. I have now added Category:Health economics. — Satori Son 15:52, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Morillons (talk) 16:53, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

Proposed merge of Microinsurance scheme into this article. This article would benefit from the material on Microinsurance scheme and would fit well as a subsection as opposed to a seperate article. --Hu12 (talk) 10:15, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that many use the expression "microinsurance scheme" when researching on the subject. Having an article of its own therefore seems useful. What would be the advantage of creating a subsection ? Morillons (talk) 10:18, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Searching within one page (the page itself or the wikitext) with a local search function is faster and better than searching several pages (for which one has to search the whole project); also the TOC provides for convenient navigation. It is relative to the topic and enforces the cohesion of a concept that while having several definitions. --Hu12 (talk) 10:56, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, than I am favourable to it. Thank you for the explanation. Morillons (talk) 11:17, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a latecomer who was just categorising microinsurance; do we have agreement to merge the articles then? then i can slap a merge-and-delete tag on it. O keyes (talk) 01:26, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Needs work, stylistically and otherwise[edit]

There is little utility to defining Microinsurance (MI) by having a debate about what the definition should be. The definition should be closest to the first (broadest possible definition that distinguishes the activity) with the "other" definitions forming the proper, encyclopedia-like discussions of MI's utility and common usage.

"Microinsurance is insurance characterized by low premium and low caps or low coverage limits, sold as part of atypical risk-pooling and marketing arrangements designed to service low-income people and businesses not served by typical for-profit insurance schemes. Sometimes also known as small face-amount insurance."

References to the IRDA in definition one and the decision-making process mentioned in definition four will tend to overly restrict the definition, as the ideas of how to implement MI are still very much open and evolving.

After the definition should be a few narrative examples of Microinsurance in action, for the purposes of illustration and understanding.

Lastly, there should be little restriction of the links posted, one of the greatest strengths of wikipedia is the ability to link to outside sources, subject only to the need for "political" balance and utility. This page could do a great deal for the subject area by simply serving as a repository for relevant links.

Long term could be development of Microinsurance implementation in different countries, such as India, South Africa, China, etc.
