MBW[edit]

There are a number of buildings with "MBW" on them - a fire station, now a supermarket, opposite Liverpool Street Station and a building in Bethnal Green. Jackiespeel 15:56, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Spring Gardens[edit]

What became of Spring Gardens? Jackiespeel 18:02, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

After the abolition of the Board it was used as the headquarters of the London County Council. After the building of County Hall, the LCC met there instead of Spring Gardens, which was used as ancillary office space. The original lease for the land was 100 years from 1858 and so it expired in 1958 and the building reverted to the Crown. It was used as office space by central government departments for a few years then remained vacant until it was agreed that the site should be used for a new headquarters for the British Council. The building was demolished in 1971. David | Talk 20:58, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Correctly answering the implicit question - which building (g).

Which building replaced it?

Can someone incorporate my sentence locating Spring Gardens more elegantly into the paragraph locating the MBW. Jackiespeel 23:16, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Accounts[edit]

The earliest issues of Whitaker's Almanack make reference to the appalling presentation of accounts of the MBW - afterwards admitting that this was the fault of the accountant. Jackiespeel 19:29, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The volumes in question are 1869, 1870 and 1871: the first refers favourably to the accounts of the fire department, the second to that of the Corporation of the City of London. Jackiespeel (talk) 20:58, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Plans[edit]

These are large documents, 'individually bagged and then boxed up' with other plans. Jackiespeel (talk) 17:31, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Meetings at Guildhall[edit]

For how long did the MBW meet at Guildhall - given that they had a building to move into? Jackiespeel (talk) 20:17, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
