This article is slightly misleading, as it ignores the tilt of the Earth. The article refers to the "zenith" of the sun, and strictly at the equator this only occurs in midsummer, though on a daily basis this would be at mid day.

The article should either be amended to include reference to the Earth's obliquity, or a note put in to indicate the issue.



Maybe this was done regarding the above comment, but the article says this method is usually used during the equinox. That means you can navigate once every 6 months?!? Less if it's cloud that day. Seems like a completely useless method if true, but I'm guessing the wording is off.
