Djibouti Official Languages[edit]

Merge[edit]

Propose to merge Enlargement of the Arab League (only 7kb in size) into Member states of the Arab League (10kb in size ) - clearly overlapping articles, with the "member states" being perhaps a more encyclopedic page.GreyShark (dibra) 09:16, 28 May 2015 (UTC) Done with no objections.GreyShark (dibra) 07:10, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

State of 'Palestine'[edit]

There is no state of 'Palestine'. There are the PA/PLO and Hamas terrorist enclaves within Israel.

78% of Palestine became Jordan and 22% became Israel.

Opinions on the status of the West Bank and Gaza aren't really relevant to this article. The fact is that the Arab League organization has a member delegation that it calls "State of Palestine". Listing it in the members on this page is intended to reflect that, no more, no less. GeoEvan (talk) 23:50, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Observers[edit]

@Archives908: These countries were never observers or no longer have that status, so it is inappropriate to consider that they are still observer states. This German reference doesn't mention Brazil and Venezuela as being observer states.--Sakiv (talk) 02:38, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These states were all invited as "observes" throughout the Leagues history. From what I gather based on the sources, "observer membership" in the League carries a different definition as compared to other organizations. Observer members are invited to attend official ceremonies, where they may participate to a capacity, but do not have voting rights. Please note that not every definition of "observer membership" is the same across every international organization...definitions, roles, and rights differ, as in this case. Each of these states have participated within that capacity, and it would be negligent to remove that fact. It seems from what I gather that the title of "observer membership" may not be permanent- nonetheless for the time(s) that these states were invited, it was as an "observer". There was no other title that was accredited to these states. It would therefore, not be an improvement to this article to remove that information. Rather, it would serve more purpose to improve the information by adding additional sources and/or altering the lingo to better match the realities of what "observer status" actually means within the Arab League. Libya’s membership suspension is repeated twice[edit]
