Is the old sample *replaced*, or is a new, filtered image created with the median stored at the old pixels location. Since the next window may overlap, it could change the computation if we modified the *old* pixels.

Well, the latter. A new filtered image is created with the median stored at the old pixels location. If you think about it, the other way would lead to a quickly accumulating "error" as we go through the signal. ----logixoul 14:44, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Distinguish from median stack[edit]

The "median stack" appears to be a different use of the median in image processing, in which the median is taken over the same pixel location in several images of the same pixel size (as opposed to spatially within any one image). I'm not sure whether any hatnote is needed, given that we don't seem to have an article about the "median stack" yet. --SoledadKabocha (talk) 04:15, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
