Merge discussion[edit]

Anon user 212.209.9.242 suggested that Media PC and HTPC be merged. I tend to agree that they should be merged since their uses overlap so much. Should the merge be approved, I'd propose that we keep HTPC and have media PC redirect there, although I could likely be swayed by a good argument to do the opposite. HTPC has better content, merge media center with this page

The term "Media PC" is not one I can say I've seen in the news a lot. I agree that if there is to be a merge that Media PC should be merged into HTPC. --Edwin Herdman 12:10, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with merging; the two pages are largely duplicative. Also agree that "Media PC" should be redirected given that HTPC is the more common term.

I agree as well with all your comments it should be merged, i have read both articles and they both have almost the same information on them. Simon Robinson 01:43, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree - the term 'Home Theatre PC' is somewhat misguiding as the current trend suggests a central media box rather than something which caters only to home theatre. Furthermore, the use of these machines specifically for audio playback implies that the term 'theatre' is somewhat inappropriate although a screen is used for controlling playback; in fact, many home users are now using media centres combined with Wireless technology to deploy audio throughout their residence as supposed to confining it to a specific room. Finally, the media pc initiative is primarily driven by Microsoft and has existed both in a specific OS version (XP Media Centre Edition) and as an OS component (Media Centre) which is now incorporated into Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. I am a professional technology consultant currently working for a Microsoft Gold Partner. D. Leslie 14:51 UTC, 23-July-2007

I am a non-technical user with a passing interest in home theatre, and I was confused by two separate entries for what appear to me to essentially the same thing. I had now previously encountered the term "media PC" before I saw it here. I would therefore support a merge. --81.1.81.164 22:14, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with merging. Media PC should be redirected to HTPC. HTPC is in common use. A Anderson

I agree, HTPC is the common term used both in the media and by the different softwares that are run on HTPC machines. The Media PC article shold be merged into and redirected to the Home Theater PC (HTPC) article. --Gamester17 15:00, 17 September 2007 (GMT+1)

So who is up to the task? Any volunteer? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.28.201.5 (talk) 13:04, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My veiw is no as a HTPC is a decicated computer while a Media PC functions as a normal computer primarily and only does media related things on the side.59.100.255.138 08:45, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
