1. alpha is usually reserved for Kuratowski m.n.c. beta often stands for Hausdorff (ball) m.n.c although chi is sometimes used for Hausdorff m.n.c, especially if we want some symbol for Istratescu (separation) m.n.c which in turn is often denoted by beta

2. one can also consider weak measure of noncompactness (to measure lack of weak compactness), most notable example being de Blasi w.m.n.c. denoted omega
