I'm really glad to have this page, as I've been having a hard time finding the definition of MRR. I think it came out of the Text Retrieval Conference (trec.nist.gov). If I find a more definitive source, I will update the page. Please don't delete it!

Agreed. I did a quick google and there are lots of pages that use an MRR (and indeed it is taught at university), but I can't find a definitive point where it came into existence. We'll keep searching. --gummAY 10:28, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article is helpful but it doesn't say anything about why the MRR is a good idea. Are there papers that demonstrate that it's better than, for example, median rank? --mcld (talk) 14:51, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
