I find this article muddled and confusing.
x-height[edit]
"This may or may not be the x-height", referring to the distance between the baseline and the mean line. This is inconsistent with the diagram (and also with the entry on x-height!) which clearly shows that the x-height is the distance between the baseline and the mean line.
Paragraph 2 refers to "this confusion" without clearly explaining what the confusion is (the first time the word "confusion" has been used). Confusing.
- I'm also confused as to what the confusion is, which unfortunately leaves me less confident that I've understood the article. Can someone who understands both the confusion and the facts please clarify this article? I'm also confused by the article being called 'mean line', when the link in the typography box at the bottom is 'median'. Mean and median are different, mathematically. a line is not a height[edit]
There is also confusion between a line and its height which is mathematically unsatisfactory but quite common.
importance[edit]
Can anyone clarify why the article has low importance in the typography project? Surely a definition is important, even if it doesn't require a substantial article?
