Hello. These breeds seem be the same. There's no Murakoz or Međimurje in Hungary in DAD-IS, and Murakoz is cited as a possible name for Međimurje. A magyar-speaker said Murakoz is just hungarian name for Međimurje. We are discussing the merging in french, but there's a Wikidata problem as in english you have 2 separated articles too --Tsaag Valren (talk) 16:21, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the merge is needed, since they appear to be about the exact same breed and one article even says that the other name is merely a different name for the same horse. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 17:05, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We might be able to merge, but what is our evidence that these are the same breed as opposed to closely related breeds? For example, the Haflinger and the Avelignese are the same breed (though bloodlines may have diverged a bit) while the Azerbaijan horse and Karabakh horse, though related, appear to be different breeds (or at least the people who care, really care a LOT about defining them as different breeds). Also, how do we decide which name to use? (Probably whichever has the larger registry, perhaps? Or the original bloodstock?) I don't oppose the merge, I just want to be sure we have our ducks in a row. I'm going to ping Justlettersandnumbers as he has the language background to help address this question. Hello, as I told Tsaag Valren on the French WP, Hungarian Muraköz, Croatian Međimurje/Medjimurje and German Murinsel are equivalent names for what is now Međimurje County, all using equivalent ways to derive, from the name of a given river (here the Mur), the name of the more or less triangular area between it and the river it flows into (the Drava): in Hungarian this is köz = "interval, place in between", in Croatian medji = "in between" in the former local dialect, and in German Insel = "island". They also all use equivalent ways to derive an adjective meaning "from Međimurje", which serves as the name of the horse breed: in Hungarian -i, in Croatian -ski and in German -(an)er, making respectively Muraközi, Međimurski and Murinsulaner.
