Stuff for recreation[edit]

"Recent vulcanism, including three distinctive lava flows, has shaped the river into pools, dramatic waterfalls and cascading whitewater. These features provide for exceptional whitewater boating, hiking and fishing." http://www.rivers.gov/rivers/rivers/mckenzie.php

The McKenzie River Trail has become a world famous mountain biker destination, earning the distinction of America's #1 Trail by a Bike Magazine reader poll.[1] Other great mountain biking trails in the area include King-Castle Trail, Carpenter Mountain and O'Leary Trail.

Some notable hiking trails include Proxy Falls Loop Trail, Clear Lake Trail, the Waterfalls Loop Trail (part of the McKenzie River Trail) and Tidbits Trail

In October 2012 a McKenzie River Geo Caching Tour was created - highlighting 36 notable scenic locations in the area.

The area also features 3 scenic highways - The Old McKenzie Hwy (Hwy 242), The McKenzie Highway (Hwy 126) and The Aufderheide (Hwy 19). Road Bike riders have worked to designate the Old McKenzie Hwy as a Scenic Bike Way and Hwy 19 has also been nominated.
