Section of Dorchester[edit]

Although not widely known today, Mattapan is still officially a section of Dorchester, annexed to Boston with the rest of the town of Dorchester in 1870. Mattapan has never existed as a separate political entity in its own right, much like Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, and Allston. The neighborhood is in a revolution movement by the looks of the facts presented in the article. Well, Mattapan has had violent acts in the past committed on their streets, the community appears to be bonding together in light of such violent crimes to make their neighborhood a welcoming place. Mattapan Current Outline-

I. Mattapan Overview This is a very short paragraph that presents data from the 2010 census. This paragraph basically lists that the neighborhood consists of triple-decker homes, single-family homes, public housing, and single family homes. There is also a brief description of how Mattapan relates to the Native American culture. a) Demographic Change This section does contain some detail but focuses on the demographic change that occurred when predominately Jewish families vacated Mattapan and African Americans and Caribbean Americans replaced them. There is so social explanation for this nevertheless, but rather the blame is placed on the Boston Banks Urban Renewal Group. b) Transportation The transportation section is a sentence or two and lacking any great detail. It states the MBTA and the Fairmount line provide service to Mattapan. c) Government and Infrastructure This is a sort of joke section, the only infrastructure listed is the United States Post Office. d) Education i) Primary and Secondary Schools This section is also lacking information. The main points are there, but there are no details about the Boston Public school system and the individual schools in Mattapan. ii) Public Libraries The only important piece of information that can be taken from this sections is that there is a sort of new library opened in Mattapan. e) Notable Residents This is just a list of notable residents there are no facts about the residents other then a mere sentence explaining their accomplishment. f) Notes This is just a bunch of links providing information, but half of the links do not work. g) External Links This is just a bunch of links providing information, but half of the links do not work.

Mattapan Updated Outline-

I will keep a lot of the same subtitles that are already included in the current Mattapan Wikipedia page, but I will add more detail to these categories, as well has expand onto different topics. The overview of Mattapan does not give a high quality description. The overview should focus more on the current situation of living in Mattapan, as well has the annual income average, percent of government aid, and such topics. There should be a subtitle that includes the history of Mattapan and the relation to the Native Americans, the transition to the Jewish community, right up to the current demographics. The infrastructure section needs to be updated and include local stores, shops, etc that can be found in Mattapan. Mattapan also has a high crime rate and a tight knit community and this should be included in two new sections. A section should also be included that shows the sociological perspective of Mattapan and how the aspects of living in the city impacts the daily life of Mattapan residents. The transportation section should also be extended. The MBTA is a very interesting topic right now and this should be an important part of the Wiki page. Transportation is not limited to public transportation though and local parking should also be included. Also all the references should have working links and be legitimate sites. In general all the subtitles on the Wikipedia page need added detail and to be more descriptive. All of the sources for this Wikipedia should be found from primary sources, including newspaper articles, scholarly journals, encyclopedias, and such similar sources.

Edits For Wikipedia Edu Porgram Course[edit]

I made the following edits to improve the content of this page. I updated the lead section to include an intro for demographics, community resources, and urban policies. I kept most the rest of the lead section the same. In demographics I deleted the sentence, "Boston-based rapper Big Shug frequently refers to the neighborhood as "Murdapan", due to its high crime rate." I did this because it was not cited and it seems bias towards a negative view on Mattapan with no facts to support it. I think it is important to add an urban policies section to Mattapan because it gives information that is unique to this neighborhood that is not all centralized anywhere else. There was also no community resource section for this neighborhood and other Boston neighborhoods have extensive community resource sections, It is important for individuals who are looking up Mattapan to a have an accurate description about what is available to them. There also was no history section is Mattapan and is present in a lot of other Boston neighborhoods. I think it is important to show how Mattapan as changed over time and what is the historic importance of Mattapan. I also added a entertainment section, which gives the researcher of Mattapan a view of what the city is actually like to visit and live in. The last section I updated was the education section, this section was very basic and I think it is important to include the excellence that the schools in Mattapan have reached. Edits for Wikipedia course[edit]

I made the following edits to improve this page. I updated part of the lead section because it was a really strong introduction to begin with. I also added a Demographic section, Urban Policies, Community Resources, Education, Transportation, and Parks and Outdoor Spaces. A lot of the information I included was from many different articles and I included ample amount of statistics that I found to be important. Some of the information that was already there I added more to. I wanted to improve some of the information for the readers to understand and introduce people to things going on in the Mattapan community. I also included pictures of streetcars in Mattapan, and the bus loop so people can see what those look like. This is being done for coursework in the Wikipedia Edu. Program so I would appreciate edit suggestions to me rather than just changing my information. Edu Mattapan edits[edit]

I added more information on the Transportation section because there was not a lot of information on the Mattapan Trolley. I also thought it would be good for users to know what could have happened to the Trolley in the beginning of 2016 because it was such a prominent issue that made some news headlines during the debate. I also added “Citizenship” and “Languages” to the “Demographics” section because Mattapan is a very diverse part of Boston and felt it would be useful for users to see how diverse that Mattapan is. My Edits to Mattapan Page[edit]

I added some information about adult education in education section. Since there are currently no high school in Mattapan, but there are young adults who drop school and for those entered US with no formal education.So, I found it imperative to add this section since it is an important section under education which talks about adult education. I also made a new section about healthcare, which was missing from the original page and I found it is a very important topic which definitely needs to be highlighted.Although, Mattapan residents do have access to major Boston's hospitals but Mattapan Community Health Center primarily serves the residents and adjacent neighborhoods without having to go farther in city. I also add a new green space section, which was also missing, since Mattapan has considerable amount of green space, it is worth mentioning. These parks have historical values and are important source for recreational source for the residents. I also add information about community resources.There was no mentioning of community resources in the original page. Mattapan has huge minor population, which makes them unique to their own.So, it is important to have a community resources for these residents, as a basic platform for the whole community to come together, work and share information. My Edits to Mattapan Page[edit]

I made edits to the Government and Infrastructure section, this was so because it had no content other than listing the Postal Service. I made this edit to improve the information on this page as well as to update the different governmental structures that can be found. Mattapan get a lot of government aid from the affordable housing plan as low income houses were built to help residents of this neighborhood. I also added the Community Resource section and the Entertainment. Mattapan United is an organization that helps the residents of this community to live in a safe environment. They work with residents and local business owners to improve the community. In the Community Resources lead section, I choose to include this section to give more content on this organization as well as the services they offer to the citizens of Mattapan. Mattapan is a very lively neighborhood as the residents of this neighborhood knows how to have a good time. The Entertainment section was necessary as I included the different fun places residents can attend to have a good time. This section allows readers to know about the fun activities in the neighborhood that attracts others from outside communities. All these edits were done to improve the content of the wiki page as well as to current information and update the ones that were not so current.
