Good Article[edit]

This is a good article, however I would prefer someone add more information. --Scotteh 11:06, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The other band member articles need more information too. Some moderators don't let you add certain information though. They ask you to fill it out, and then they go and delete what you add. Still, this one does need more info. RoryS89 22:39, 16 June 2006 (UTC)RoryS89[reply]

Clean up?[edit]

Could someone please explain what kind of clean up is needed? What do they mean by clean up? They never leave details of what they want, just a box posted on top of the page. Could someone please explain or clarify what kind of clean up is wanted? I'm not trying to be mean here, I just would like to know if someone can help in this situation.RoryS89 14:42, 23 September 2006 (UTC)RoryS89[reply]

It means that the page is not organised. Content is not in the right place. Personally, I think it's a great article.

"Matty T"[edit]

I just call him "Matt-T" (Matty)

Is information about nicknames some fans have for Matt really worthy of mention on Wikipedia? I mean, I could call him "Love Muffin" or "SpongeBob" if I wanted to, but that obviously isn't something that should be mentioned on here. I know those examples were a bit extreme, but I was simply trying to make a point. What does everyone else think? --Mears man 04:02, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't know if they really should include that, but Matt usually signs the blogs on thier website as "Matty T." Thought I have never heard anyone call him "T-Sun." -Chrissyy

i always call him T-Sun..(: haha(: i would just be happy to talk to him, i'd call him whatever he wants me to. haha(: -bailey,(: —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.242.167.196 (talk) 01:33, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Extended Family?[edit]

There's a sentence in the article regarding Thiessen's extended family, which reads "Matt's extended family consists of his aunt, Nettie Thiessen, and her daughters, Bev, Bonnie, and Lynn." It seems have almost been randomly thrown into the article. Should this be removed, or possibly just moved to a different part of the article? There seem to be several other things that were just haphazardly thrown into the article, and they probably need to be addressed as well, but this one stuck out to me for some reason. --Mears man 02:39, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship Status[edit]

Does anyone know anything about Matt Thiessen's current relationship status, whether he be single, in a relationship, engaged, or married? This is something I've been trying to find some reliable information on for some time now, but I've yet to find a consistent answer to this question. —Mears man 17:44, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

he's engaged! Obviously i check up what ppl ask since i am his future wife! Mckinnon Theissen—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.70.128.168 (talkcontribs) 22:34, 7 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

OMG! He's engaged?! Wait till i tell the girls! They'll go nuts!!!!!!!!!- Maymi Hatake

Do you have a source that you could share with me to verify that claim? I'd like to see where you heard that, and I'd also like to see if there's a way that the information could be working into the article, but, without a source, I can't add it. Like I said, this is something I've had trouble finding reliable information about, seeing as I've heard people say both that he's single and that he's in a relationship, but, as of yet, neither side has been able to provide a reliable source for the information. —Mears man 04:37, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He has said that he has a girlfriend, but I've never heard anything about them being engaged. He talks about her in this flip-book: http://www.flip.com/people/flipbooks/38918 (page 2)-Chrissyy

Well I read a interview that said he is in a relationship and might get married so no engagement as far as I know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.72.147 (talk) 05:54, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think he used to date Katy Perry awhile ago.... maybe that should be put in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.72.2.200 (talk) 14:16, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He dated Katy Perry from 2003-2006 then Shannon Murphy from 2006-2009 and proposed to her on June 17, 2009 and they were to be married on August 22, 2009. But due to certain conditions, God told him that she wasn't the right one and called off the marriage in July. Thus leading to his hiding out in a lake house in Tennessee for the next few months writing and recording Forget and Not Slow Down, which, if you listen close, you can tell is obviously his break-up cd to her. And while you listen to that, keep in mind - she was from Georgia. That may come in handy...

Just wanted to plop this in here. This journal post was compiled by a fan and it outlines all the facts regarding Shannon Murphy and her engagement to Thiessen. here

Though opinionated (it's a journal post), it lays out all the known facts from beginning to end and cites sources and official posts that were made by radio, Murphy's blog, etc.

May want to consider it (or at least the sources it cites) for the article.

Social Distortion[edit]

Is the following passage really necessary?

Thiessen said of the song "Wake Up Call," "At one point in my life, I was about 15 years old, God started, really tugging on my heartstrings... I was in a band at the time. It was actually a Nirvana, Filter, Marilyn Manson cover band. It was pretty funny. We called ourselves 'Social Distortion'... Jesus just gave me that wake up call, and said, 'Start writing music for me.' And so, I did... If you're on your butt, get off it. Start living for Jesus."

I mean, yes, it is a good quote, but it really doesn't present any information that isn't provided in the sentence before it, and it's a bit wordy. Seeing as the article needs clean-up as it is, I think it might be best to remove the quote itself and simply add any pertinent information to the sentence before it. Any other thoughts? —Mears man 00:15, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing as it's been over a month since I first raised this question and nobody has responded, I went ahead and removed the quote. If anyone feels that it should be part of the article, feel free to share. —Mears man 03:57, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it really tells of how they became a Christian band and started writing Christian music. -Chrissyy

Yes, and the article already discusses that, but this quote was put at the end of the sentences discussing that, and I felt that it was just taking up space without providing any new information, and the article has been tagged as needing clean-up, so that's why I went ahead and removed it. —Mears man 20:46, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

oh well that sux, jk —Preceding unsigned comment added by Relientk fan girl (talkcontribs) 00:24, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Drums[edit]

If Matt can play the drums how come they had a seperate drummer and how come he never plays it I'd like to see some proof. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.29.160.8 (talk) 19:13, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. There are a lot of instruments listed, yet the entire thing is completely unsourced. I say that if we can't find a source stating that the can play these instruments, then we should probably remove everything that he isn't credited as playing on the albums themselves. —Mears man (talk) 19:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a list of proven instruments he plays.

1.Guitar 2.Piano 3.Bells 4.Vibra phone And why is it listed that Vocals is a instrument its a talent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.72.147 (talk) 22:58, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why vocals is listed as an instrument, that should probably be removed. As for those instruments, did you get that from any particular source (a website you could link to, perhaps?), or are those just the ones you know he can play? From seeing him in concert I too know that he can play those instruments (well, to be completely honest I'm not sure if he played the bells or vibraphone when I saw him, it may have been another one of the band members) but if you got that from any particular source we could cite that would really help. —Mears man (talk) 23:20, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well I have proof that he plays the Bells and Vibraphone, on the Delux edition of Five score the have a DVD recording of Faking my own suicide and he plays them in that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.72.147 (talk) 23:32, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He just played at the Palladium in Worcester MA and played a little bit of drums for the drummer's birthday. He said it was his first time drumming on stage ever. He also picked up a trumpet for the last song in the concert. Of course, I don't have any pictures, but you might be able to find some somewhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.174.5.44 (talk) 15:23, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other band[edit]

In the acts section why doesn't it say anything about that project that did the song "silly shoes"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.78.70 (talk) 22:31, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose I could be wrong, but I was always under the impression that it was Relient K that performed that song. —Mears man (talk) 03:40, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, In the Relient K artical in the side project section it says that its a side projest called The makeout girls wich is made up of Matt thessin and Kevin peden. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.70.31 (talk) 22:19, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So why isn't it in this artical and why doesn't it have its own atrical? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.70.31 (talk) 23:31, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

that picture of matt thiessen and his guitar[edit]

isnt that guitar the same guitar that tom delonge's signature guitar??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Enilyks (talkcontribs) 05:21, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Matthew Thiessen and the Earthquakes doesn't really deserve it's own article. There is really nothing notable about the project that justifies an additional page. I'm going to work on cleaning up this page, and start incorporating the information from the Earthquakes article into this one, and then we can take it down (unless we seem to have a consensus against it). —Akrabbimtalk 12:53, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. —Akrabbimtalk 14:49, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of songs and collaborations[edit]

I removed the lists for all of Thiessen's collaborations and his solo project songs and copied them to my sandbox for safekeeping. I don't think they belong in the article in the condition they are in. At some point a discography section or something will be necessary, and they can be included in some form there. —Akrabbimtalk 14:56, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that came together quicker than I thought. I got it back in there in the form of a table. —Akrabbimtalk 23:40, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced statements[edit]

While I've been working on this article, I've been removing stuff that is unsourced, and that I haven't been able to find where they came from. Most of the Google searches I have used just come up with other websites that have copied this WP article. However, some of this stuff may be useful to add to the article, so if anyone can find sources for them, that would be great. Also, if anyone can find the article that he had in Breakaway a few years ago, there's probably some good stuff in there also. —Akrabbimtalk 03:47, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • His songs generally draw influence from both his Christian faith and adolescent past.
  • Thiessen's first band could be described as a grunge Nirvana cover band called Social Distortion (not to be confused with another punk rock band named Social Distortion).
  • He also has a side project called "The Makeout Girls", which he performs with his friend, Kevan Peden. Kevan is also known for his starring role in the hit tv show The Cuties. They made the famous Relient K bonus track, "Silly Shoes".
  • Matt Thiessen proposed to Shannon Murphy, and the couple planned for an August 22, 2009 wedding. Undisclosed circumstances led to the termination of the engagement.

Dude, respectfully, the addition I added is verifiable. http://www.stereotruth.net/2008/08/relient-ks-matt-thiesen-has-found-the-best-thing-a-wife/ & http://blogs.ajc.com/radio-tv-talk/2009/08/02/morning-mess-shannon-murphy-has-a-new-gig-in-detroit/ The Conqueror Worm (talk) 16:28, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for those sources. I had done a quick search, but I didn't come up with anything so I removed it per WP:LIVE. —Akrabbimtalk 18:11, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

likewise: He dated Katy Perry from 2003-2006 then Shannon Murphy from 2006-2009 and proposed to her on June 17, 2009 and they were to be married on August 22, 2009. Do you have sources for all this? —Akrabbimtalk 04:34, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The sources cited for the reason for his breakup do not say infidelity. The mlive source is unreliable because they drew conclusions and didn't have hard evidence. I have removed this source and sentence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karl 334 (talkcontribs) 18:15, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will be restoring it in its entirety. They draw no conclusions. "Murphy has talked openly on the air about how she broke off her engagement after finding out her ex-fiance cheated on her." No conclusions drawn. Plain statement. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:34, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And....it's gone again. There are no definite conclusions as to why they broke up, so there's no reason to slander his name. Bam. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.157.26.162 (talk) 22:16, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And it's back again. There are conclusions in the reference. Feel free to check the reference. There's no slander at all. The exact phrase is "Murphy has talked openly on the air about how she broke off her engagement after finding out her ex-fiance cheated on her," and can be found in the second reference. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:29, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Collaborations - Owl City and Carl Rae Jepsen[edit]

Quote: "He (Matt Thiessen) also co-wrote "Good Time" with Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen."

Would just like to point out that Miss Jepsen had NO hand in actually writing the hit song, "Good Time." You can look in the lyric sheet of any copy of Owl City's "Midsummer Station" and see it was written by Adam Young, Matt Thiessen, and Brian Lee. To say Carly Rae had anything to do with the writing is false. She just sang in it. Adam has even stated this in an interview or two. Even if this wasn't the intent when writing that part of this article, I would recommend re-wording that one part so it doesn't deceive people. -RhettGedies — Preceding unsigned comment added by RhettGedies (talkcontribs) 21:07, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Possible libelious information re: Matt Thiessen's divorce[edit]

From masthead, "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous."

I could not find any mention of the word "divorce" in the linked newspaper issue re: the divorce in 2018 at archive.org. If the notice is indeed there, please also list the column and paragraph number, thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PowerstarL2 (talkcontribs) 00:52, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
