Merger Discussion[edit]

There are three (or arguably four) redundant pages about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, each with largely similar information. First, there is the page about them as twins: Mary-Kate_and_Ashley_Olsen. Then, each twin has her own page: Mary-Kate_Olsen and Ashley_Olsen. ADDITIONALLY, there is a stub about their twins-focused production company, Dualstar, which repeats some of the info on this page and doesn't seem to have info that couldn't easily be incorporated into the other pages.

I propose that we merge the three (or four) articles into two articles, by dissolving the Mary-Kate_and_Ashley_Olsen page and making sure that all the information on that page is included on the twins' individual pages. So this Mary-Kate page would be one of the two TARGET articles, and the Mary-Kate_and_Ashley_Olsen page would be the FROM article.

Are there other famous twins that have three pages about themselves: one for each twin, then one for the twins as a duo? It seems very redundant, and I don't understand why it has existed this way on Wikipedia for so long. The twins page only has 10 very short paragraphs about their twin acting career, and 3 short paragraphs about their twin fashion career, so it seems like those paragraphs could be integrated into each woman's individual page.

I very much welcome the input of other editors! Aroundthewayboy (talk) 12:23, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's been almost 3 months with nobody else discussing it (even though people have made a few edits to each of the pages. Unless anybody objects, in October I will be bold and make the change of merging the twins article into each of the actresses' individual pages. This is my first time reading about this. I can understand where you're coming from. I'm the admin at the Full House Wiki at Fandom. We also have three articles for them, but each is distinctly different. I don't think it's worth going through all that work. You may as well merge the individuals into the one for the duo, because if you make it just the two individual articles then there would be even more redundancy. Also, what set of twins are as famous as the Olsens? As an acting duo, they are/were an unparalleled phenomenon. Musdan77 (talk) 03:55, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would support either adding the repeated info from the twin page to each of their individual pages, or vice versa consolidating their two individual pages into one page for the twins. I just don't think there should be three pages. I don't mind doing the work of taking the twin info and adding it to each of their individual pages. Oppose. They became famous together, but they are different people who have different interests now. "Mary Kate and Ashley" became a brand, an iconic duo for the 2000s. It would be stranger not to have an article on them together. The Kessler Twins are an example of where your example may apply better, since they are still an act even today. The Mary Kate and Ashley example reminds me more of Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb from Bee Gees. Alecsdaniel (talk) 18:27, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your vote, but I'm a little confused. You wrote oppose, but then you seem to be supporting what I am suggesting: Eliminating the twin page, and moving the info from the twin page to each of their individual pages. Could you clarify which you support? Thanks. Aroundthewayboy (talk) 18:01, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, as I understand it, he supports having three pages. --Moscow Connection (talk) 22:23, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I meant three articles. Alecsdaniel (talk) 16:50, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really have a strong opinion on this, but I think it would simply be "safer" to leave everyting as it is. Yes, they are famous as a duo, but, as Alecsdaniel said, they are two different people with different lifes.
I would propose to "consolidate" all the information on their work together in the twins article. Each of the individual articles should have a shorter, very concise version of the same story and a {{main}} template linking to the twins page. --Moscow Connection (talk) 06:11, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
