"Heathen"?[edit]

There's no source for the part about some of Martie's husband's friends calling her a heathen? Where did this come from? As a long time Chicks' fan, I've never heard Martie talking about this, although she has mentioned that the Catholic Church wouldn't marry them (of course, due to her divorce).

Agreed. I found the article as such a poorly written stub class piece, that I felt compelled to attempt to do my best with it, as well as the one (quite obviously begun by the same person) for Emily Robison. I welcome any help, suggestions, etc. I plan to remove the heathen comment, because aside from not being referenced, "White Trash Wedding" has that line.. "baby's on it's way..." and yet Martie had to struggle with different options for years just to conceive. Thus far, I'm just working my way down because the early Dixie Chick years are not as easy as those with Natalie Maines; it's hard to find proper references for the Lynch/Macy days. Wanna help? --leahtwosaints (talk) 06:24, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please, identify yourself first![edit]

In the past week, I've had text and references either duplicated or changed and do not know the user who is making these changes. Please, if you wish to work on this page, leave a message since I've been focusing on it, and duplicating information or rewriting it with a change in references muddles up what I am trying to do here. If you introduce yourself, I'd feel more comfortable about it all and we could work on this together, rather than my daily changes and your "hit" and "run" approach to the subject matter. Thanks. --leahtwosaints (talk) 05:44, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, I'd LOVE help with the pages I work on.. other than Aleta, I don't know the editors on this page. Pull up a chair, let your hair down, but let's work together! :) I keep wondering who removes Country rock from the info box as a genre that Maguire plays. --leahtwosaints (talk) 12:17, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revert re: Dixie Chicks Members in the Info Box[edit]

Someone stopped here, (first time I know of) to contribute to this page, removing the "current names" of Dixie Chicks members and "past names" as well from the Info Box. I feel strongly that the history of the Chicks is vital; and especially because Martie Maguire worked with Laura Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy founding the band for a period of years that it is necessary to be able to glimpse the box and see how the band changed over the years and evolved to where they are today! Please, if you want to help with the page, pull up a chair, help with text, references, etc., but don't just do the "hit and run" edit without communicating! --leahtwosaints (talk) 01:48, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article has the wrong scope[edit]

This article has a big problem — it has way too much general material on the Dixie Chicks history, that is not particular to Maguire. The general band history should be covered in the Dixie Chicks article, not here. Practically everything in the "Emergence of the current band" sections, for example, is general band history that barely ever mentions Maguire!

For good examples of how FA-level articles treat musicians who are also members of bands, see Phil Collins or John Frusciante. These articles do not try to replicate the whole history of Genesis or the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but instead limit themselves to just the aspects of those bands that were directly associated with the musician in question.

So this article should stick to Maguire. A quote about how Maines joining the band revitalized Maguire's music? Fine. Long descriptions of hit records, chart placements, etc.? Don't belong. And so forth. Wasted Time R (talk) 20:15, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am in total agreement! However, until quite recently, the main band page was completely screwed up with no background of the origins of the Dixie Chicks. Thus, I was kind of "stashing" things here in some dated semblance of order for transfer to the band page. Anything below the Fly area of the article I'd planned to delete, and.. although I did a little work on Fruciante's page......

Well, please, will you join me on this one?! I can't find anyone else with experience to do so, and it's my first article, ever! --leahtwosaints (talk) 13:01, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why not make changes to the Dixie Chicks article directly? I don't get it. Wasted Time R (talk) 13:04, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. It might be best to start with the Chicks article then fix up members' pages. I managed to pull off the inverse with Maines, but I think that was because I was able to find enough info about her specifically. But I did completely whack out the philanthropy section from Maines' article as well as LGBT activitist (and the LGBT tag) as these seem to speak more of the band than the individual members; and the definition of "activist" is open to a bit of interpretation, thus application. And if you're lookinng for a place to temporarily stash text, try creating a WP:Sandbox off of your userpage. I've currently got three and they're really useful! ZueJay (talk) 00:55, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article stayed like this for additional months. I've now gone through and chopped out most of the general, non-Maguire-specific Chicks history and listings that I saw. Wasted Time R (talk) 02:43, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You chopped it alright. Surely the beginning of the article after the intro shows that I was quite earnest in helping along a stub. I never intended to be an editor, just thought I'd fix small things. Then I got wrapped up in it. What bothers me is that, sure, a newbie is told to be BOLD, and it took 9 months before you came back here and announced that my good intentions were basically wrong. Thus, I just up and left the page as was- at 2003 on the Dixie Chick timeline in my head. Perhaps it's why the BAND page suddenly looks like after 2003 the whole band was only about politics and Grammy Award-vindication. If it isn't about the interaction of the people, and what they produce, and how, it ends up lacking. Just now revisiting this, I think it would be far more welcoming to the next run-off newbie to nurture each thing done right, and explain why something goes where it does. That goes further than "biting the newcomer" (whether you know you sound that way or not).--leahtwosaints (talk) 19:00, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Leah, I never said you didn't add valuable Maguire information to this article or valuable group information to the Dixie Chicks article. I said that you piled lots of group information into this article, when putting it directly into the Dixie Chicks article, or into a sandbox, was the right way to go. That problem is now solved, and you can go back to improving this article or the group article. If you feel the group article's post-2003 material is lacking insight into the group personal creative dynamic, then by all means go ahead and add something there on it. Wikipedia is indeed a bit of a rough-and-tumble world, but neither I nor anyone else has run you off these articles. And I would personally encourage you to keep working on them. In the last revision I edited, I found duplicate named references, i.e. references sharing the same name, but not having the same content. Please check them, as I am not able to fix them automatically :)

LGTB? or whatever?[edit]

Although, after first putting in some significant time researching Maguire's background (albeit having no clue back then as what to do with it), I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what exactly places an artist into the Gay/Lesbian/etc. Category? Either being gay, bisexual, transgender, or supporting the rights of others who are? Where is the line to determine how much support an artist is willing (or able)to give to fall into that category?? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 23:54, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You Tube as reference?[edit]

The reference given (#22) I think about Martie's wedding spurring on the "White Trash Wedding" song gives a youtube as reference. Last time I checked a year ago, they were copyright violations. What is true? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 00:51, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
