Nominee for Time Person of the Year[edit]

Also in 2010, Williams was a nominee for Time Person of the Year.

He does not appear on Time's published list of nominees.[1] Does anyone have access to the source to see if he is actually described as a nominee? Perhaps the columnists were simply speculating that he might or should be a nominee. Will Beback talk 00:38, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that Youwager.com was taking bets that he'd win, but that's not the same thing as being nominated.[2] That article is a copy of of an entry on Williams' blog, which apparently is now deleted.[3] Will Beback talk 01:22, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Role with Tea Party Express[edit]

Is there any source which supports Williams stepping down from his role with the Tea Party Express over the satirical letter he wrote? The article states:

Williams served as the spokesperson for the Tea Party Express until he was forced to step down amid controversy over a racially charged satirical letter posted on his blog and comments that he made to the media.

However, that's not supported by the source, which seems to say the opposite - it says that the Tea Party Express stood by Williams, and thus the National Tea Party Federation expelled the Tea Party Express. Thinking about it some more, I really think that the IP was right in removing that section - it isn't supported by the source used, I haven't seen any other source yet which does support it as written, and it is unclear as to what the significance of being dropped from the National Tea Party Federation is. That's enough to think that it is enough of a problem that we should probably remove it as it stands. - Bilby (talk) 08:56, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for checking. But it does not seem contentious that he stepped down during this controversy, and it is easy to find other sources which support the statement as written, e.g. the LA Times: "Tea Party Express spokesman resigns after racist blog post". (See also the current version of Tea Party Express.) I suggest replacing the New York Daily News citation with that one, and maybe also changing "forced to step down" to "stepped down".

And reading the various IP contributions, it does not seem the resignation fact was their objection against this sentence. Rather, they concerned the existence of the satirical letter itself, which is supported by various other sources, e.g. MSNBC, TIME, CNN.

That one looks better. :) Although I'd agree that "forced to step down" seems wrong, as it looks like he chose to instead. Thanks for finding that. I guess we need to hash out the wording for other part, then. I'm curious as to what the concern was, although I guess calling it a letter is a tad strong, as it looks like to was a blog post in the form of a letter.
