privacy[edit]

He is a person, and everything professional occurs in a personal context. David Weiser, his father, was a chemistry professor with an interest in the theory of knowledge. David Weiser introduced Mark to Michael Polanyi's work, specifically the theory of implicit knowledge, on which Mark commented that ubiquitous computing is based. It all ties together. His sister Ann Weiser Cornell is listed in Wikipedia, is living, and is a source to verify facts, etc. She confirmed with me today that Mark identified Polanyi's ideas as a foundation of his work. --Laurence R. Ubiquitous Computing Principles[edit]

The article says Weiser gave a number of principles "during one of his talks". Those are widely cited among the internet - probably because of this article. But there is no exact source given - why? What happened to objectivity?[edit]

Ubiquitous computing - as a concept, rather than a name - has been predicted for decades by numerous scientists and countless science fiction writers. None of this man's fan club have made a case for Weiser's views to be particularly special. This reads like a speech from a memorial service, rather than an objective account. Further, the reference supporting him being "widely considered to be the father of ubiquitous computing" looks as if it is exactly that - can't be sure, as the link is broken.

Mr Weiser deserves an objective account of his achievements, not a hagiography. Heenan73 (talk) 13:05, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Separate Calm Technology Article?[edit]

A colleague and I have been working on an article draft for calm technology. Currently the "calm technology" article redirects here. We believe that there has been enough further research and development by others besides Mark Weiser since the redirect creation which would warrant a new calm technology article.
