This is simply one of the worst articles on Wikipedia that I have come across. I don't know if anything has been documented since it refers to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Raincoat. I kid you not. I am going to move the bulk of the text to the talk page for clean-up before it is put in the article. No one should have to run across this on Wikipedia. He repeated the part of Lun-Tha in a concert version with the BCC Symphony Orchestra with Barbara Cook in 1996, conducted by Wally Harper. In the summer of 1996 he made his debut at the Herod Atticus ancient amphitheater, under the Athens Acropolis, in an evening dedicated to the memory of Leonard Bernstein, with the “Orchestra of Colours” ( a symphony orchestra created by Oscar-winning popular Greek composer Manos Hatzidakis), singing excerpts from “West Side Story”, “Candide”, “ Our Town” etc. He returned to this ancient theatre in September 4th and 5th of the same year, marking the start of his collaboration with renowned Greek composer Yannis Markopoulos, winner of the BBC-TV music award for “Who pays the ferryman”. He sung the title role of Orpheus in the “Orpheus liturgy”, an oratorio that was also broadcast by the National Greek TV Network. He was to interpret this work another three times in 1999. In the meantime, and at the same period of 1996, he was repeating his successful portrayal of Marius in “Les Miserables” at the Palace Theatre, in London’s West End.

In February 1997, due to his mother’s serious illness, he interrupted his international career to return to his home country where he soon became very popular with his fellow countrymen. He received great critical acclaim in the Athens theatres for his portrayal of parts such as Billy Kracker in K. Weil’s “Happy End”, with the Carolos Koun Art’s Theatre, the Lead Bird in Aristophane’s comedy “The Birds”. In September 1997 he was offered the lead role of Danny Zouko in the musical “Grease”, directed by David Gilmore. Once more, it was a great success with public and critics alike. In the same season, he appeared in late night shows in the prestigious music hall “Iera Odos”, alongside Greek star George Dalaras, singing popular Greek, Italian and Spanish songs: the production toured Greece and Europe and was turned into a best-selling CD (by EMI Greece), which soon went platinum. Representatives of Sony Music heard him in this show and arranged for him to be introduced to Peter Gelb, the head of Sony Classical: the outcome was the signing of an exclusive contract, enabling M. Frangoulis to start an international recording career at the highest level.

His collaboration with prestigious Greek composers continued with his starring in the May 1998 Herod Atticus performance of Mikis Theodorakis’ “ Axion Esti”, a musical rendition of the historic poem of the same name by Nobel prize winner Odysseas Elytis.

In the spring of 1999, he made his first solo show, again in “Iera Odos” music hall, with songs from all over the world, with the participation of Deborah Myers. He was an overnight sensation, and these appearances were followed by a hugely successful concert tour in Greece and Cyprus the following summer, playing to audiences of 2.000-10.000 people. His first solo album, “Fengari erotevmeno” (“Love struck moon”), a live recording of the show, a double CD by Sony, Greece (with kind permission of Sony Classical), was an immediate best-seller, thus winning him his second platinum album (both in Greece and Cyprus) in two years.

In the summer of 2000, he was Tony in “West Side Story” at the prestigious La Scala Opera House in Milan. In August he sang the title role in Yannis Markopoulos “Erotokritos”, at the Herod Atticus Theatre. At the end of the same month he returned to the same venue for his first solo recital there, with the participation of Deborah Myers, with a repertoire of Greek and foreign songs: a show that also went on tour and was also turned into a best-selling CD. From then on, his appearances and successes are too numerous to list. Mario Frangoulis has performed as a solo concert artist in some of the most prestigious concert halls in London, Berlin, Munchen, Helsinki, Paris, Brussels, such as Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Athens Music Megaron concert hall, Frankfurt Opera, Savoy Theatre, to name but a few, in more than a hundred concerts around the world, always to great critical acclaim. The extensive Greek tours which he regularly undertakes every summer, and the frequent appearances dotting the Athens cultural winter season, have made him immensely popular in all corners of his homeland. To those must now be added his U.S. tours, which started in the winter of 2004-05 for the promotion of his international albums. At the same time, Mr. Frangoulis is pursuing his dream of opera, continuing his training with a Greek teacher and waiting for the right moment to fully introduce opera to his many fans. His concert experience includes appearances alongside Montserrat Caballe and Samuel Ramey with the orchestra and chorus of the National Youth Orchestra at Whitehall, celebrating the late Princess Diana’s birthday, in memory of Dame Margot Fonteyn and to benefit the Royal Ballet on May 21st, 1991. In May 2001 he was one of the leading artists in an evening called "Viva Verdi", a tribute for the centenary of the composer’s death, given at the New Opera of Moscow, and opera is now a highlight in all his personal concerts all over the world, from Greece to Japan to the U.S., where he made his solo debut on May 2005 at the New York City Center.

A firm believer in not neglecting any facet of his talent and of his loves, he has also been active as an actor. In the summer of 2001 he made his debut in ancient Greek tragedy, interpreting the demanding role of Dionysus in Euripides’ “Bacchae”, a production that toured all Greece, and was also performed at the Herod Atticus Theatre in Athens: his acting drew unanimous acclaim from public and professional critics alike. The success was repeated two years later by his portrayal of the role of Achilles in the trilogy "Achilleis".

His international recording career started in 2002 with Sometimes I Dream, (released by Sony International), with a repertoire of songs by Mediterranean composers:an album that infused elements of rock, pop, and film music as well as opera. In 2004, Frangoulis appeared in De-Lovely, a film on Cole Porter's life, where he sang the duet "So in Love" with Lara Fabian, which is included in the soundtrack CD. His next album, Follow Your Heart, consisting of the same elements, followed in 2005. In addition, 2005 saw the release of his latest Greek album O Kipos Ton Eichon (Garden of Wishes) with original songs by various composers, including himself, on texts by poet Paraskevas Karasoulos .

The book "Mario and I", by journalist Rosita Sokou, was published in Athens by Kastaniotis editions, in December 2005, and is looking for an English publisher.

In the meanwhile, Mario is again touring the U.S., and speaking with representatives of Mario Lanza's family about a project for a show and film on the life of the legendary tenor. His concert in Boston at Harvard's Sanders Theater on June 16, 2006 was sold out (http://www.tunesbaby.com/shows). His recent Chicago concert on October 9th 2006 was also a great success. Tidying up the page[edit]

O...K... Gone about as far as I can here. What I really need is for someone to clear up the reference list at the bottom of the page so that it doesn't list sites over and over again each time they're referenced, but has all the references to a particular site go to the same link. I'm afraid I don't knwo how to do this.

I'm taking off the 'resume' tag and the 'ref' tag, but leaving the 'clean-up' one.

Amongst his concert performances, Mario Frangoulis has notably appeared in numerous charity events around the world, expressing –in this way- his immense humanitarian ideals and his passion for assisting, through his work, people in need, and especially children. concerts lead by international organizations such as unicef, unesco, jose carreras leuchemia foundation, horatio alger association, aids relief for children, give us your poor, british red cross, elpida, michael s. polemis foundation

The year ended, with the New Years' Eve at Syntagma Square, organised by the Municipality of Athens, for the New Year Celebrations, with Greek singer Alkistis Protopsalti. 60,000 people attended.

On May 11th 2004, Frangoulis performed in another sold-out concert at the Herod of Atticus Odeon, for the 550 years of the Great School of the Nation, with a selection of favourite songs by Mikis Theodorakis, as well as the famous Axion Esti, of the Nobel awarded poet Odysseas Elytis. Guests included British performer Jeff Leyton, Spanish soprano Carmen Avila, the Greek baritone George Matheakakis and the actor Konstantine Markoulakis, as the narrator in 'Axion Esti'.

With Sometimes I Dream which sold over 350.000 copies worldwide, Mario Frangoulis has just released his second international album in Greece and U.K under the title Follow Your Heart, with Sony Classical. This 12-track collection includes classic romantic arias as well as new songs written especially for Mario Frangoulis which will capture the hearts of his many fans as well as bringing his wonderful voice to a wide new audience. The album includes collaborations with talented performers, such as the Grammy Award Winner Alejandro Fernandez in the song Hay Mas. One of the composers who participate in the album is the Oscar winner John Barry, who has composed the song 'Here's to the Heroes' [lyrics by Don Black].

In August 2004, with the return of the Olympic Games in Athens, Mario Frangoulis performed at the Official Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympic Games. In October of 2004, great American Soprano Barbara Hendricks joined Frangoulis, for a jazz evening below the Acropolis.

In 2005, Mario's latest Greek album "Garden of Wishes" Was released in Greece and Mario toured in Greece promoting the album. Simultaneously he was giving concerts around the world, including his first performance in South Africa and a concert with the Baltimore Symphony orchestra, a concert at the Detroit Opera House and many others.

June 2006 is also marked by the concert for the 50 years celebration of the Baalbeck Festival, Lebanon performing at the Bachus hall of this historic venue.

December 2006 – a cd and Dvd from the live concert "Music of the Night" at the herod atticus amphitheatre with the novaya opera of Moscow conducted by evgeny samoilov.

He continued his summer tour in Greece to support the young artist program -an idea devised by mario to promote young artists. The cast included George Perris, Evi Siamanta and Konstantinos Klironomos. with a "Tribute to Lorca" and new songs composed by Dimitris Maramis and the summer season ended with a concert at the Ancient venue, "the Herod Atticus" below the Acropolis with a "Tribute to Mario Lanza" with the National Balalaika Orchestra coducted by maestro Vladimir Ponkin.

2007 has been a busy year for Mario. At the beginning of the year April 28, he performed with Elena Kelessidi and with members of the Baltimore Opera Orchestra at the Lyric Opera House.

January 2005, following the Tsunami devastation, which took the lives of innocent victims in Southern Asia, Mario Frangoulis gave a heart-warming performance in Athens. Frangoulis participated in a fundraising concert, held by the National Television of Greece, in support of the children which lost their families in the tragic disaster.

To all the people who say there are unverifiable things. What makes them verified? I clicked on a link and it was to the IMDB (International Movie Database), a small biography full of mistakes (I went and corrected some of them). For instance, it said that it was the Maria Callas Prize which enabled him to go to New York. And many dates were all wrong. Such comments could be made for many of those links. Sometimes they are newspaper articles, and these newspapers have just copy-pasted the official C.V. which is given out by his press-office. Yet, just providing a link to anything makes whatever is written here "more serious". (The irony is that many links have taken their info from Wikipedia...) Isn't it enough that ALL this info(and much more) can be found published in the book "Mario and I"? A book thoroughly researched by the author, journalist and critic Rosita Sokou,who also happens to be Mario's personal friend, by the book's editor (Irene Maradei), who is Sokou's daughter and also a journalist and music critic. They both had full access to programmes, newspaper clippings, recordings, videos etc..., and of course they also had personal experience, as they both had attended most of the Greek events where Mario appeared since 1997, and Ms Sokou had written a zillion reviews on her newspaper columns. Every single date, every single name and its spelling, everything was then checked for accuracy by Mario himself who accepted the book and was present at its official presentation. As for the "hugely successful" parts, these too are documented in countless newspaper reports and reviews, but mosst are not online. I wish I had the time and energy to provide references to newspaper articles (I have many in my possession) but I am sure that most Internet junkies (I'm not saying this as an insult, I'm one myself) tend to believe more something they can click on!!!! Is he really a tenor?[edit]

I am not sure he is a tenor as his style is similar to a classical cross-over singer like {{Sarah Brightman]]. Has he ever performed opera? I do not think so. I am also not sure he is an actor while I do not think he worhed as an actor. The article has no reference for the previous. Finally, it is not mentioned that his aunt was the famous actor Rena Vlahopouloy. I guess she contributed to his career. 89.32.211.27 (talk) 10:24, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
