Band Information[edit]

I'm not completely sure how to add sources, but you can prove the band winning information at Marian Catholic Band Tvaughn05e (Talk)(Contribs) 22:21, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sources need to be from a more independent source than that. When making exceptional claims, exceptional sources are needed (see: WP:V). LonelyBeacon (talk) 05:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Would any of these help: [1], [2], [3], [4] Zombie Hunter Smurf (talk) 14:55, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who?[edit]

A Brenna Kyner is listed as being an American Idol reject. Is this really enough to be considered a famous alumni? Zombie Hunter Smurf (talk) 14:06, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:MarianCatholic.jpg[edit]

Image:MarianCatholic.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The Band[edit]

The following section was inserted, with the deletion of some referenced material. I restored the referenced material, and moved the newer edit here:

The Marian Catholic High School Band Program is regarded as one of the premier high school marching and concert bands in the United States. Over the past 30 years, the bands have earned hundreds of awards and honors and is recognized as one of only a handful of programs to be awarded both the Sudler Flag and Sudler Shield for marching and concert excellence. The Marian Band's educational and competitive philosophies have been used as models for band programs in nearly every state of the Union. In the State of Illinois Marching Band Championship, Marian is undefeated their class since 1980. This 28-year streak is unprecedented in any arena. The marching band is a SEVEN-time Bands of America (BOA) National Champion (The only band to win more than three titles and the only band to win in three consecutive years)a FIVE-time BOA Summer National Champion (1984,85,86,87,88) and a 14-time BOA National Class Champion (Classes AA, AAA), most recently in 2007. The Marian Band has qualified for BOA Grand National Finals every year since their first appearance in 1984, the longest streak of its kind. Marian Concert Bands achieve superior ratings in the Illinois High School Association Organizational Contests. The Symphonic Band is undefeated in its class at the Illinois Superstate Concert Band Contest since 1981. The Marian Concert Band also placed first in its class at the State of Illinois Concert Band contest in every year attended. The Marian Symphonic Band participated in the first Bands of America National Concert Band Festival and participated again in 1995 and 1998. The Marian Symphonic Band has also performed at the National Band Association Convention and three times at the IMEA All-State Convention, most recently in 2005. In 2001, Marian was Illinois' lone representative in the Inaugural Parade for President George W. Bush, have marched in prominent Disney Parades and most recently participated in the 81st Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Marian Catholic is also proud to offer a growing and steadily improving winterguard program. Since its creation in 1997, the guards have consistently earned recognition within the Midwest Color Guard Circuit and Winter Guard International, including WGI Scholastic Open Finals appearances in 2001,02,03,07,08 (2004-06 competed in Scholastic World) as well as the overall SO Championship at the MWCGC Championships in 1997-1999, 2001-2003, 2007, 2008 and MWCGC Scholastic World CHAMPIONS 2004-2006. Returning to competition in SAA classification for the first time since 1998, the new Marian SAA Guard captured the 2008 MWCGC SAA Championship. The Spartan Band is a holder of three Illinois and four Chicago Heights honorary proclamations, including a joint Illinois House and Senate proclamation in 1990. The band is also twice entered in the United States Congressional record in congratulatory commendatory messages.

If this can be referenced, please add it. The section is already hurting for referenced material, and the article is not really helped by adding more unreferenced material. This needs to be referenced in third party sources (not the school website): newspaper articles, magazine articles, websites from the organizations who sponsor these contests, etc.

Also, WP:PEACOCK; be careful in adding words that are too self preening.

Examples: is regarded as one of the premier high school marching and concert bands in the United States. This is an opinion. Saying one is "decorated" can be backed up with factual information.

The marching band is a SEVEN-time - the caps are not necessary.

This 28-year streak is unprecedented in any arena. - this is strong language that is factually inaccurate, as there are other teams in Illinois (let alone the nation) with longer streaks for titles (eg. Hinsdale Central's conference tennis streak).

James Conroyd Martin[edit]

I just added a weak reference for this notable staff member. He remains notable (IMO) as long as his book remains the subject of an article here (or, of course, if he becomes the subject of his own article. If anyone could find a better reference, that would be great! LonelyBeacon (talk) 23:37, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Found a bunch when working on his article. Will use one of them eventually. Zombie Hunter Smurf (talk) 00:11, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
