What?[edit]

A "4to" and "8vo"? Are these journal names or book styles? These should be glossed or linked to a relevant Wikipedia article or something. Boneyard90 (talk) 12:54, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

4to = quarto; 8vo = octavo; these are book sizes (actually sizes of the sheets of paper). My assumption is that the information is copied from a contemporary British source and at that time the abbreviations were normally used. It does. Thank you. Makes me wonder why the original contributor didn't add that. Either (s)he assumes too much or copied & pasted from another source. I hesitate to edit the article accordingly, as it's not really in my area of expertise. Boneyard90 (talk) 17:52, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and edited it to read "quarto" and "octavo" because clarity is more important than preserving a contributor's archaic shorthand (especially if it's likely that said contributor has basically plagiarized another work). 68.98.42.168 (talk) 13:06, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
