Note: The dates given for Manuel John Johnson's presidency of the Royal Astronomical Society in: Dictionary of National Biography, 1885-1900/Johnson, Manuel John, which says "president of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1857–8", are wrong.

Royal Astronomical Society sources:

Dreyer, J. L. E. and Turner, Herbert Hall, History of the Royal Astronomical Society, p250 gives 1855-57.

Past RAS Presidents - LIST OF PRESIDENTS AND DATES OF OFFICE gives 1855-57.

Note - Query about date of birth, 23 May, 1805.

In East India Company Cadet Papers, 1821, Manuel John Johnson states that he is "unable to produce a parish register" and that he was born "on or around March 1805." (Find My Past Record set: British India Office Births & Baptisms: Manuel John Johnson. (Subscription required).) By this time, his father, John Wm Roberts, had died and he was the ward of John Bowden. Other entries confirm he was born in 1805. Kylenano (talk) 15:54, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
