English surname Mansur[edit]

Although the name/surname of Arabic origin is globally more widely known, this page currently omits mention of the Mansur surname of English (and possibly Norman) origin, reportedly with early roots in Westmorland, which apparently has no connection to the Arabic word. On Wikipedia, Charles H. Mansur may be of this heritage. (My own family background includes Mansurs of New Hampshire and Massachusetts.) In English it has sometimes been spelled Manser, and misspelled in some older US Censuses as Mansar.--A12n (talk) 07:20, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Further to this subject, two external sources, the first of which place the name (which like the Romanized Arabic name has variant spellings) in a different context than the Swiss Manser: A short paper, "The Origins of the Mansurs of New England"; and a genealogical work, Mary Rebecca Ellis, 1926, The House of Mansur, Jefferson City, Mo.: The Hugh Stephens Press.
