Should this article be located here? I cite the example of Tiverton and Honiton–unless necessary for disambiguation, it's unnecessary to have such a lengthy name. Mackensen (talk) 19:49, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This is an issue which has been discussed at WP:UKPC, I'm not entirely sure what the outcome of those discussions was, I believe Wikipedia:Disambiguation (or some such similar page) says that disambiguation should only be done when neccessary, and in this case I don't think it is, therefore I would support the page being moved to Maidstone and The Weald -- Joolz 20:04, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
We have been having a discussion at the Constituency Project talk page - the straw poll supports having the disambiguation suffix on every article. I support that decision and hope we can move all pages to the disambiguation suffix as soon as possible. doktorb wordsdeeds 11:54, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maidstone pre-1997[edit]

I have split out the material relating to the pre-1997 Maidstone constituency to a separate article: Maidstone (UK Parliament constituency). This is per the convention of WikiProject UK Parliament constituencies that there should be a separate article for each name of constituency.

Apart from avoiding assessments about how big a change is made between a constituency of one name and its apparent successor, this also avoids a mistake which can arise that if a person is listed as an MP in article, readers who have not read the small print may assume that the person was MP for a constituency of the same name as the article, e.g. that a 19th-century MP listed here was MP for "Maidstone and the Weald" rather than for "Maidstone". --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:35, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
