This article has obviously been written in very good faith, but unfortunately still contains a couple of very important, but unsubstantiated claims (weasel words). These statements must be supported by verifiable sources, or they will simply have to be cut even if they a re perfectly true.--Kudpung (talk) 16:28, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. The references fail to include The Ligon Family and Connections, William D. Ligon, 1947, which I recall mentions that as of Domesday the property was in the DeBracy family, acquired by the Ligons (or Lygons) via marriage. Since then it remained in the Ligon family until the 8th Earl, but with at least one case in which a husband had to take the name Ligon.
