Fair use rationale for Image:Madball.jpg[edit]

Image:Madball.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Genre[edit]

I have to agree with Xkillmefirstx. Thrash is sourced but allmusic is not the most accurate website when it comes to metal and hardcore, at least not the style section (every metal band more extreme than thrash metal would be "Scandinavian metal" or "death metal/black metal"). None of the album reviews mention thrash metal, hardcore however, is often mentioned. Sometimes it's better to use your ears and common sense; but even better is to look up a couple of reliable sources, as many as possible, and see what most sources say about Madball. If thrash is a prominent genre in all these sources, it may stay, otherwise it has to go.

None of the metal databases I know feature madball (f.e. metal-archives.com, metal-observer.com, bnrmetal.com etc.) probably because they are not considered metal. Rockdetector [1] only mentions hardcore. Neither Ferret record [2] nor Roadrunner [3] mention metal or thrash in their Madball bios. And last but not least: the first dozen pages of this Google search are not giving us evidence of madball being thrash.

Find an article with Freddy Madball in which he states: "We are a thrash metal band." and we can leave leave that as a genre. Anyone who knows this band, knows they are a hardcore band. They don't talk about thrash metal, or metalcore, or melodic metal space core. Read the lyrics to any of their albums, and you'll find.... hardcore. So please stop adding these far out genres. That is probably the most idiotic thing I have heard anyone say about music in a long, long time. By your reasoning, any band could be considered "hardcore" if they themselves described themselves so. That would make countless myspace kiddie-deathcore bands with fringes count as "hardcore", and the same reasoning applied elsewhere would allow Good Charlotte to be recognised as a proper punk band, as the Madden twins (now if those two arent a good argument for compulsory abortion, I dont know what is) have described themselves that way. For fucks sake, a psitrance music project could be considered "hardcore" here, if its members were to describe their music as "hardcore" - Jonathan Handforth, 21/9/08

We're looking at this from two different perspectives. Your looking at it from the musical side of things, I'm looking at the musical content. Hardcore isn't just a style of music, it's a way of life. Dave Matthews can't start a hardcore band, because (I'm assuming) he doesn't know anything about what the music is about. Madball started as a hardcore band and continues to this day to be a hardcore band. This is reflected in their lyrical content. I live and breath hardcore. There is nothing POV about my statements or my actions. This is something I know for a fact. Like i said earlier, short of you coming up with a direct quote from Freddy Madball stating his band is no longer hardcore, I will continue to disagree with you on this topic.
I may have made some assumptions in this response, and if i offend, please accept my apologies. Since we're not going to see eye to eye on this subject, let's meet attempt to meet each other in the middle. Maybe a portion of this article which reads similarly to the aversion.com/bands/madball page: "Harsh New York-style hardcore, Madball sticks with heavy arrangments bordering on metal. While not as close to thrash as other New York acts, the band takes pride in its heavy, pummeling style." The genre stays "hardcore punk", which appeases my side of the argument, while that description hopefully satisfies yours. Youth of Today and The Misfits were worlds apart, yet both were hardcore bands. Gorilla Biscuits were a posi veg. band, Agnostic Front were street; both were hardcore. And let's not forget the crusty UK scene. The "hardcore lifestyle" does not exist. The question is "What is Punk?". The original use of the word punk so many hundred years ago was for useless dead wood that was only good for tinder to start fires. From this people would call something or someone not of high quality as "Punk". The same way some people often say "he/she is just dead wood" when of no good. After the group the group the Kinks released the song "You really Got me" which was a simple song containing mostly three cords, it started a string of unprofessional groups with one off hits copying the style, hence the magazine critics calling it "punk rock" meaning amateur and not of high quality. The big difference between hard rock / Heavy Metal and punk rock / Hardcore Punk is the quality and professional standard. Metal will have lead break and technical skillfull playing whereas Punk is not supposed to and will just be mostly strumming rythms. Madball are a hardcore band. If we want to define the type of hardcore they are playing then it'd be New York Hardcore. I don't know how the adjective would be in English, but in my language (Macedonian), people that are into Hardcore call this style Њујоршки which would translate as Newyorkian or New York's Hardcore. The adjective "street" hardcore is also used for MAdball's style, but not so frequently, however.
