Birth and Biography[edit]

Much of Mabel Stark's biography is obscure, and perhaps deliberately so on her part. During the 1930s she told newspapers that she was born in Montreal, Canada. On her passport application filed in 1918 she stated her place of birth as Cobb (Caldwell County) Kentucky and her date of birth as 9 Dec 1888, her full name as Mary Ann Haynie, and her father's name as Hardie Allen Haynie. Her mother's name is not stated. It is likely she did not know her true date of birth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.185.199.157 (talk) 06:22, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

The height of her career was in the 1910s and 1920s, so there should be a number of PD-US photos. (Any photo first published before 1923 is in the public domain.) I've found a number of photos of her using Google image search, but none of them are dated. – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 13:52, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suicide ?[edit]

I am reading The Gentle Jungle by Toni Helfer, and she writes "Mabel Stark put a plastic bag over her unhappy head and commited suicide" (page 45). Hektor (talk) 07:06, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for leaving Jungleland USA?[edit]

This article claims that "Another misconception was that the new owners" of Jungleland USA "had a disliking for Mabel Stark and had in fact fired Stark upon taking over the park; This is not true. The real reason Stark was let go was due to insurance." A comment on this web page implies possible animosity between Jungleland USA's c. 1968 owners and Ms. Stark, however.--Aronro (talk) 05:02, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
