Untitled[edit]

Having sailed on the Brittanic several times, I distinctly remember her as being referred to as M.V. Britannic (M.V. being the abbreviation for Motor Vessel) I also have images of her log and White Star Line promotional material that us the M.V. instead of the R.M.S. (She could of course be both since R.M.S is just Royal Mail Ship.) A minor point, but perhaps worth noting somewhere in the article.--John 20:18, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's correct; in fact, "RMS" is typically used to mean "Royal Mail Steamer," a designation which wouldn't fit Britannic. Contemporary postcards of her, when they use any designation at all, call her "MV" or (less frequently) "RMMV" Britannic, not "RMS."Mab819c 02:37, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sentence Needing Clarification[edit]

"The poor performance of the Britannic was partially due to slightly damaged machines, identified on 4 January 1937 while the ship was leaving New York, and it was sent into a dry dock for repairs." Are the "machines" referred to actually engines? As it stands, this sentence is puzzling. Twofingered Typist (talk) 12:38, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for spotting that. Yes, the "machines" are indeed engines, so I have replaced the word. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 13:21, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

last White Star ship?[edit]

The article states Britannic was the last ship constructed for the White Star Line to remain in service. But the SS Nomadic wasn't finally retired until 1968 - 8 years after Britannic. So I guess the question is....does the Nomadic classify as a "ship"? If so, this sentence should be removed from the Britannic article. Elsquared (talk) 08:59, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
