Comparison to US-built Mark 46[edit]

If I am correct, the MU90 is exact same diameter, near same length as a US-built Mark 46 or Mark 50. Is the shipboard triple over the side laucher (picture on article page) exactly the same for either one?(looks like it to me) What inputs/digital signals does this weapon need in comparison to the US-built Mark 46 or Mark 50? such that a yes answer means any ship/nation could load either the US Mk46/50 or the MU90 and still properly launch it with their weapons system / electronics? You made mistake. Comparison between MU90 and Mark 46 is not right. Between MU90 and Mark 50 as well. Eurotorp is a newer generation weapon then Mk 46 - so, probably is significantly better, on the other hand most likely Mark 50 Barracuda ALWT has much bigger capability than European Eurotorp. It still seams to be different league. The best comparison for MU90 is cheaper than Mk 50 - Mark 54 torpedo. And apparently, these torpedoes are biggest competitors on the world's market. --Matrek (talk) 21:56, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First 'warshot'?[edit]

This week, there was an article on news.com.au about the claimed first live-firing of an armed and explosive ('warshot') MU90 torpedo. Can anyone clarify (preferably with an independent source) confirm that this is the first time that someone has stuck some 'boom' inside an MU90 and launched it off the side of a ship, or if some sort of qualifier (possibly first 'by a RAN vessel') needs to be attached to the statement. Source cited below for convenience. -- saberwyn 04:08, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Australian Associated Press (16 August 2013). "First 'warshot' MU90 torpedo a blast". news.com.au. Retrieved 24 August 2013.
The Department of Defence stated that the test was "the world’s first firing of a “war shot” MU90 Lightweight Torpedo": http://news.defence.gov.au/2013/08/16/successful-torpedo-firing/ It seems surprising, but may be related to the fact that the RAN ordered the torpedoes while they were still under development (much to its surprise according to the Australian National Audit Office! [1] - apparently the RAN evaluators misunderstood the stage the weapon was at) Nick-D (talk) 08:49, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
