I've noticed poor little Category:Leo cluster sitting empty and alone, and I'm wondering if the "Leo I group" is the same as the "Leo cluster". If so this category can be eliminated as redundant, anyone know? Bryan 19:43, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Cloud and groups or Group ans subgroups?

I'm not eather sure whether the Leo I group is a galaxy group with subgroups. Or if it's a galaxy cluster cloud with two galaxy groups. If anyone has any info on this, talk. — Hurricane Devon ( Talk ) 01:43, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

This comment is very old, and Hurricane Devon is long gone, but I thought that I should comment. Hurricane Devon is hung up on a semantics issue. Astronomers do not try to differentiate among "cloud", "group", and "subgroup". The real question is whether the M66 and M96 Groups are one or two gravitationally bound objects. The two groups are physically close to each other, but it is unclear as to whether they are gravitationally bound to each other, so it is unclear whether they comprise one object. Most (but not all) group identification studies (which simply examine how close galaxies are to each other in identifying groups) list the M66 Group and M96 Group as two separate objects, so Wikipedia should probably list them as two separate objects. Nonetheless, both articles should also indicate that the two groups may or may not be part of a larger group. GeorgeJBendo 22:04, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Leo I group of galaxies → M96 Group — A Google search shows that "M96 Group" is used more often than "Leo I Group". Also, scientific papers on the ADS Abstract Service list this object's name more frequently as "M96 Group", and the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database lists this under the name "Messier 96 Group", with "Leo I Group" given as an alternate name.
