Not amphiphilic LX[edit]

Examples of Lyotropic liquid crystals, which are not amphiphilic, would be welcome. Setreset (talk) 09:37, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I merge from the old article lyotropic, now a redirect, so maybe there is some improvement on that side Setreset. I've also provided the only three sources I found, I hope it is better than before. i uopdate to "stub".--Alexmar983 (talk) 06:36, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Intro[edit]

I remain confused by the current starting sentence

"A liquid crystalline mesophase is called lyotropic if formed by dissolving an amphiphilic mesogen"

However mesogen is defined as "a compound that displays liquid crystal properties"

So it a liquid crystal is called lyotropic if it's a liquid crystal? That's a fairly cyclic description, something must of gotten lost somewhere --Project Osprey (talk) 09:35, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
