Updates[edit]

Updated Alumni section - added Tim Curry (Winter Term 1957 until Spring Term 1958) and Rick Astley (1977-1983). Removed Sir Percy Craddock - does not appear on OSA list, therefore cannot confirm he attended Lymm; contemporary source at OSA states he may have attended Bridgewater. --87.74.86.195 05:03, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccuracies[edit]

In around 24 hours I will be making some changes to this article as it is littered with factual inaccuracies. Its as though old students from the early 90s, and long before that, have attempted to fuse their own experience with the modern school and missed a large chunk of its history. A great example of this is in the 'School Halls' section where someone has linked an old four-hall system with the new five-hall system. I can tell you for fact that between 1995 (and earlier) and 2002 there was NO hall system at all. Another example is the "School Song"... I was a student at Lymm High between 1997 and 2004, and can tell you that there is no such thing as a school song at Lymm. It is an archaic piece of history that is part of someone's experience from likely the 50s or 60s. It should remain as a piece of history, but should not be dressed as though it is a contemporary occurrence. This is to give you advanced warning of my edit. The linking of the Hall system goes to a speech given by Mr Lounds the headteacher when they were instigated. I was a 6th former when it came in, and, while it (the hall system) wasn't there before, there was supposed to be a link with the old halls - demonstrated by the reallocation of staff.

As a member of Lymm High school's choir I have heard this song before but we do not tend to use it. We tend to sing the older school song more often "'Jerusalem'" Which was not written for Lymm High School.

Tim Curry? I was at Lymm Grammar School from 1962-1967 and am 6 months younger than Tim Curry, claimed as a former pupil. I don't recall him at all. His Wikipedia page says he lived in Plymouth, went to boarding school and later another school. No mention of Lymm at all. I suppose he might have been at the Secondary Modern. This page conflates too many schools that are quite unrelated. The Secondary Modern and the Grammar School had virtually no contact.Sebmelmoth (talk) 15:59, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Even archaic and out of date information deserves to be preserved for the sake of interest. Instead of removing it I feel you should have placed it within its context. Lymm Grammar School[edit]

There is a group of former students of Lymm Grammar School who think that it would be better to give that, now defunct, institution its own article. The definitive history is "The History of Lymm Grammar School" by Derrick M Kay, by whom many of us were taught. His history ends in 1960, the possible tercentenary, and the plan is to put the remaining 17-19 years of its history here. That would leave the article on LHS to stand alone.

Schools are not the building, or even the staff, they are ethos and LHS is not LGS. Better to record the end of a good grammar school with care. Sebmelmoth (talk) 08:46, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
