6 feet under sea level? NO![edit]

Much of the heavily built-up residential and commercial part of the island is six feet below sea level and so is surrounded by dykes as well as equipped with a complex ditching and drainage system to prevent inundation.

Lulu island has no point below sea level! If you want to claim that, prove it with credible references. It is explicitly written in the atlas of canada: There is no land area of Canada that is below sea level[1]. Also look [2].LeQuantum 18:52, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lulu island does actually have points below sea level but not 6 feet. [3] Bear6811Wiki (talk) 19:58, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

sources for specifics of Lulu Sweet's biography[edit]

Currently the article suggests Lulu Sweet was dating the New Westminster mayor and had property there, but neither of those claims are supported by the BCGNIS citation linked earlier in that sentence, or by other sources I could find. Perhaps Skookum1 could provide a formal citation to the Alan Morley and/or Maj Mathews book he mentions in his edit summary? --Hughstimson (talk) 22:21, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have either book handy; in fact I sold them both upon leaving the Lower Mainland in 2007. The Lulu Sweet story has various versions; another source may be Tom Koppel's Kanaka, which is about the British Columbia Kanakas; I think it's in there also, or one version of it is; there may be another book on women in early BC, also....I'll be in Penticton soon (after a 3 day, 3 hour bus ride from Southern Ontario...) and the library there may have suitable materials to cite from...I just googled and found this, which includes a History of Lulu and covers Colonel Moody's gesture, though not the dating the mayor part. And this blog discusses the matter, and points out our article makes it sound as though Moody were the mayor of New West (and makes a dismissive comment about New West being chosen as capital). Also the Tourism Richmond site covers the same, albeit briefly, but has items which are of use to the article....Skookum1 (talk) 05:04, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Population in infobox[edit]

16x,000 is less than the City of Richmond population, and since hardly anyone lives on Sea, Annacis or Mitchell or any other island, clearly this needs amending - since Queensborough's population must also be added on; presumably separate data from StatsCan, based on postal code maybe, could find the latter figure, and somehow the marginal population on Sea Island could be subtracted from Richmond's; there's a few houses on Mitchell, I know, but total population of them combined couldn't be more than 200, more like 100 or less.Skookum1 (talk) 05:04, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Below sea level"[edit]

Both List of extreme points of Canada and List of elevation extremes by country say that the lowest (dry) point in Canada is the MSL. Is there any source which could explain why parts of Lulu Island are said to be below the sea level? Is it below the MSL or the high water mark? 112.120.39.217 (talk) 03:28, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
