responsibility for loss[edit]

His incompetence really was a large reason for Austria's loss, so the weasely wording here is wrong. 72.144.60.229 15:30, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

Benedek was of Hungarian descent, but he is not most commonly known as Lajos in English publications. As far as I can tell, he is most commonly known in English as "Ludwig von Benedek". Olessi (talk) 08:25, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name - form in Hungarian[edit]

Actually - I've never seen his name in Hungarian, Ludwig von Benedek being used exclusively, but wouldn't be it - as it's a Hungarian name - in the order Benedek Lajos rather than Lajos Benedek?78.128.177.136 (talk) 00:27, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

responsibility[edit]

it might be true, that Benedek has made some mistakes / wrong decisions, but other source has kind of predicted that the outcome of the battles was already decided, before the battle has even begun and this source demonstrates this story just to show that the Archduke got unlimited power even to crush the most powerful commander

excerpt from ISBN 963 281 217 4 (Jászi Oszkár: A Habsburg-monarchia felbomlása), page 225 Benedek was the most popular commander after the death of Radetzky, he got great prestige in the army. When 1866 was coming then he was already in service in the southern area, as he quoted: "I knew every stone and tree in Lombardy". When he was ordered to give his place to Archduke Albrecht because the winning was more easy there, he has resisted to the order saying: "I would be only a donkey in Chech where I do not even know the flow of the Elba". It is said that this exchange was needed just to secure the most probable winning of the Archduke, and as later on it turned out it was true, the Archduke was a winner while Benedek was the loser.

He was ordered to the Kaiser to give his honest word that he will not make any word in defense of himself in order to serve the Kaiser, after it then the Archduke and the defense ministry has made an (they have checked the kefelevonat ~ first print of the page) article in the Wiener Zeitung where they have blamed Benedek for all of the wrongdoing in the battle of Sadowa. Benedek has kept his word and has remained silent, he just has written in his last testament that: "this kind of behavior does not fit into his thinking about the law and justice and honour". Also he has denied that his funeral would be with military parade(honour ???) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Izomtibor (talkcontribs) 00:12, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
