Consolidation of Articles[edit]

In accordance with the agreement made by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, which stated that only Loyola University Chicago retained the legal right to call itself Loyola University, this article should be the main article for Loyola University. All other uses would be accessible through a disambiguation page, however this article would maintain its use for information on LUC.Spikethehawk 16:39, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

However, LUC has not chosen to identify itself as simply "Loyola University," all official materials use "Loyola University Chicago" and LUC has also claimed it does not want to use simply "Loyola University" in order to avoid confusion with the other Jesuit institutions. [1] I suggest that this page be returned to Loyola University Chicago and that "Loyola University" once again become a disambiguation page. -- SmokeDetector47 02:14, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be willing to agree to make Loyola University Chicago the main LUC article, as long Loyola University redirects to Loyola University (disambiguation). Therefore any confusion would be avoided as to the proper usage of the phrase. Spikethehawk 19:38, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Is anyone opposed to this? If not, then I'll probably do that within the next few days, unless someone else wants to. Spikethehawk 21:10, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Not that anything was ever done or is likely to be, since this thread is 2 years old, but I don't think random legal rulings out to affect how things are filed and index in an an encyclopedia. Especially since they aren;t likely to affect how people actually think about things. --Belg4mit 11:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Linkage[edit]

For a variety of reasons it seems pretty bad form to link the entire line in a disambig list like this, not least of which is it makes less clear what the actual linked article's name is. --Belg4mit 11:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Loyola University not a secondary school (though Loyola College may refer to one such indeed).[edit]

Even though Loyola College (redirects to Loyola University) -- Loyola College proper, that is, "may refer to a college, university or academy of higher education or a secondary school" (my stress added) indeed, AFAIK, no example of a Loyola University refering to a secondary school is available.

Hence, IMO, the claim as if "Loyola University may refer to a college, university or academy of higher education or a secondary school" (sic) is false.

As a matter of fact, within (i.a.) the continental European school system (and at least some of the Australian one, as it turns out), "college" hasn't got the meaning that it has within (i.a.) American education system. AFAIK, in the former system (Continental European, etc.) indeed, "college" always refers to a secondary school, while in the latter (American, etc.) style system, a "college" is some kind of higher education.

By redirecting Loyola College to Loyola University, the Loyola University disambiguation page claim: "[Loyola University] may refer to a college, university or academy of higher education or a secondary school." (sic) turns false.
