Polish reactor[edit]

Source in Polish Polska ("Poland") daily newspaper, (qualifies as a reliable source) my translation of one paragraph [1]:
"The reactors are working - only, somwhere else"

This way the plans to build the nuclear power plant in Żarnowiec were buried forever. With the closure of the building site thousands of expensive instruments ment for the power plant became usless The majority of them including, two out of four reactors were scrapped. One of the remeining reactors was bought for a symbolic price by a nuclear power plant in the Finish town of Loviisa - where without any breakdowns it is working till today. The second reactor was sent to the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary"

But other sources do not agree: One scientist who writes that he worked at the ŻArnowiec nuclear power plant [2]:

Ofcourse, it is not true that the Loviisa NPP or any other NPP operates an entire nuclear reactor bougt from the Żarnowiec site. But many other impotant elements of the reactor and other nuclear elements, which were bought as "full value" parts to be used in the NPP, may still be used in the Lovissa NPP and other NPPs.

So the entire "Polish reactor" story looks like a Polish urban legend based on some facts. Mieciu K (talk) 21:57, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One of the Zernowiec reactors and other equipment was indeed bought by the Loviisa NPP. However, the parts have been used only for personnel training (according to an article written in 2006 [3], i'm not sure if any are in operation as of 2008) and also shown to visitors to illustrate the operation of the plant. I couldn't find info if they are licensed to be used as spares or not. See [4]. Two pictures second from the top are of a steam generator (left) and control rod equipment (right) bought from Zarnowiec. SGJ (talk) 20:21, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
