Listing dates by continent[edit]
Livelikemusic & others interested: Is it really necessary to use separate tables for the continents or even identify them? Usually, this is done when it is important to identify significant segments or legs of the tour, which are identified as such by reliable sources. Currently, the same source is cited for each continent (the Tomlinson website), which does not make any distinction: it simply lists the concerts chronologically (those in the US are followed by Brazil, Ukraine follows Mexico, etc.) without any mention of legs or continents.
Currently, the concerts are separated in to six tables, three of which only contain two venues. There are only two days between the second European concert dates and Asian dates and four between those and the Australian dates – hardly enough to differentiate them as discreet, separate legs. In fact, they may be seen as unnecessary detail, information-for-information-sake, and not really add to the readers' understanding of the tour (as with other geographical details, such as northern vs southern hemispheres, temperate vs tropical climates, etc.).
To overcome a proliferation of small tables (which are discouraged for featured lists and articles), the current GAN The 1989 World Tour#Shows does away with continents altogether. Another possibility is to add a column for continents, as in The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour#Shows. WP should not be creating legs for tours that don't exist in reliable sources.

- It is necessary, per MOS:ACCESS, which addresses tables and referencing the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility/Data tables tutorial. MOS:TABLECAPTION also requires users to use captions per tables, to adhere to MOS:ACCESS for the visually impaired. livelikemusic (TALK!) 03:54, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Livelikemusic: I am familiar with the MOSs and there is nothing about the necessity of identifying continents. The 1989 World Tour table (which follows DTAB & TABLECAPTION) does not include continents, so there is no reason to include "continent" in a caption. Also, The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour (which includes "continent" in the caption) complies with the MOSs without splitting the tables by continent. The idea is to avoid many separate 1–3 item tables in articles, which could give articles a confusing, overly busy look. Of course, when reliable sources actually identify "legs", these can be identified, either in separate tables or columns, if noteworthy. —Ojorojo (talk) 14:47, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
