Peer Review[edit]

Overall, the writing is strong--clear, scholarly and unbiased--and the content is interesting and diverse. You covered essentially all of the different aspects I felt needed to be included: early life, training, connections with other well-known artists, artistic development, style, and important works. I also love the inclusion of information about the recent auctions of some of his works; its a unique look into the value of his works today, and therefore gives the reader an idea of his renown.

One area I think could be easily improved is the lead of the article. The goal of the lead, as listed in the Wikipedia peer review, is to give the reader a decent understanding of the issue at hand and content of the article. The discussion of his birth date would fit better into the early life section. Some things that could be added into the lead section are the names of some of his most notable works and the fact his son was also a notable Renaissance painter. You could also include more information about his artwork such as the information that he painted frescoes and triptychs, the content of his paintings (religious? portraits?), his use of the Trecento style, and what he painted with (tempera and gold).

I think the article could also benefit by a couple of structural changes. Instead of the headings "Early life" and "Maturity," I would suggest that you parse the information in those two sections out into two new sections, one you might title "Bibliography" or "Personal Life", and another titled something like "Artistic Career/Important Works/Etc." The bibliography section would contain information about when he was born, who he trained under, who he was friends with, the circles he moved in, information about his son, and when it is estimated he died. The other section can contain the information about his earliest and last works, artistic development, style, major works, and more. Although at certain points this separation may be difficult and it may seem there is overlap in the two sections, I think it would greatly help with the clarity and flow of the article. I think "Market" can easily remain its own section.

A couple final suggestions/notes:

  • I have copyedited the article, but avoided any edits I thought would change the article drastically. This includes adding a couple links to other relevant Wikipedia articles (such as Spinello Aretino's).
  • The article would also benefit from the inclusion of a couple additional images, if they are available to be shared on Wikipedia.
  • Something strange seemed to have happened to the source code for the references. Only two are listed, although you have 13 different citations in the body of your article, and the first one is a long list of code instead of an understandable citation.
