The Ark[edit]

Seems like something should be mentioned about the award winning BBC documentary about the zoo. It's a major historical record of the zoo during an important transition.

The Ark (1993)

In its Victorian heyday, visitors marvelled at 'the Ark in the park'. By 1991, however, London Zoo was in trouble. With government subsidies ended, the loss-making institution had one year to balance its books or face extinction. In came the moneymen and out went 1300 animals - a third of the zoo's collection - and 26 keepers. In too came Molly Dineen, director/producer/photographer of The Ark, the BBC's four-part series about those troubled twelve months.

The Ark (1993): In this series of four films, Dineen reveals the inner workings of London Zoo as the institution is rocked by uncertainty and change.

Accompanying the zoo’s keepers, managers, and varied animal inhabitants during a period of profound crisis, the series is a delightful, candid and moving portrait of the passions and pressures at work within this much-loved menagerie.

The Ark was BAFTA Award Winner for Best Series (1993); recipient of Prix Europa Special Commentation; Voice of Viewers and Listeners award for Best Television Programme (1993); and Indies Documentaries and Features award (1994). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.22.57.231 (talk) 04:15, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Zoo Quest[edit]

Perhaps there should be some mention of Sir David Attenborough's Zoo Quest series for London Zoo, Including the first Banded Armadillos?

Also, In The Bit About Humming Birds, It Says "Humming Birdsin the UK". For A Moment I Thought There Was A Creature Called A Birdsin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.13.129.239 (talk) 20:14, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chi Chi was not the zoo's first giant panda[edit]

This article currently says ""The Zoo's first giant panda, Chi Chi, arrived in 1958.""

That's not true — I will edit to remove "first".

As the Wikipedia article for Chi Chi points out: "Chi Chi was not London Zoo's first giant panda; Ming was one of four that arrived in 1938."

Indeed, the zoo hosted a lot of pandas from the 1930s onwards: see http://www.giantpandazoo.com/LondonZoo.html or http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/museums/hunterian/documents/surgical-spirit/SurgicalSpiritIssue18Summer2013.pdf . (I have seen the skull of Ming in a quite good display at the Hunterian museum.)

Transport links[edit]

It is my view that transport links are not Encyclopaedic content as should be removed from this entry. Comments please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gloucestershiredad (talkcontribs) 06:12, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

After a period of no response, I have removed this section. Gloucestershiredad (talk) 17:08, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
