But is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch actually the real name of the station? Surely Llanfairpwll. If so the entry should be moved to Llanfairpwll railway station. Flapdragon 18:20, 7 September 2005 (UTC).[reply]

I agree. The national rail live departure boards refer to the station as Llanfairpwll (see [1]). The full-length name can be mentioned later in the article. Our Phellap 20:13, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

But.....the station itself is called by the full name of the village and displays this on the station sign. The shortening to Llanfairpwll is a convenience so that the name fits neatly into time-tables etc. The accapted shortening of the name approved by Anglesey Council is Llanfair PG. But that's the point, it's not called that by anyone, either officially or in everyday life. No-one would ask for a ticket to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch railway station, except as a joke -- unless of course they had just got off the plane and taken the guidebook too seriously! I second the proposal to move the article to Llanfairpwll railway station, its official name. The name of a railway station is not invariably identical to the name of the community it serves, in any case. It would appear that the name of the village is and always was Llanfairpwllgwyngyll any longer is 'fun' any less is abbreviation. However the mood does seem to favour Llanfairpwll (used in local speech) rather than the 'Victorian Bradshaw' Llanfair P.G. which nobody ever mentions in speech and which was probably the reason for the 'bit of fun' in the first place. I would agree with a change to Llanfairpwll but not Llanfair P.G. For completeness sake all the names should be mentioned and explained. NoelWalley 14:48, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Llanfair PG is used in speech and I don't see how "Llanfair PG" could be said to be the "reason" for "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch". Surely Llanfair PG must be seen as an informal abbreviation of the real name, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. I'd have thought it might be Llanfairpwllgwyngyll railway station but I don't know. But we can be pretty sure the offical name of the station is not "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch railway station". Llanfairpwll railway station seems fair enough. Considerations of space[edit]

The "full name" plus that info box just will not fit with many browser and/or window settings and gives rise to a lot of space. I have inseted hyphens between the name of the village, the extra detail and the name Llantysilio etc. to enable it to split between lines. Also added a short explanation of the name. I have removed the long name from the information box as it is not the name of the station. NoelWalley 08:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
