Name change proposal[edit]

I propose the article be moved to "Christian liturgical use of Latin", since obviously the scope of this article does not cover every liturgy (those would include Roman pagan liturgies). Veverve (talk) 12:12, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I was under the impression that liturgy was originally pagan Greek, not Roman, and thus "Liturgical use of Latin" wouldn't apply to that context. Even if it did, I'm not sure what content would exist for such a topic, other than, "yes, Romans spoke Latin." In any case, any non-Christian usage would certainly be a secondary use of the term, and we can use a hatnote to disambiguate if we have a target page. I think this line from WP:TITLEDAB applies here: "If the article is about the primary topic to which the ambiguous name refers, then that name can be its title without modification, provided it follows all other applicable policies." While the word is Greek, the concept and practice of liturgy is universal. This could also possibly concern Reconstructionist Roman religion. Although, after some research, I have not found any RS discussing the use of Latin in liturgies outside of Christianity. Veverve (talk) 13:11, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
