Bizarre sentence in article[edit]

"Once the test is run, only the Nestor robot they were looking for makes a move to save her, because it detected harmless infrared rays rather than gamma rays."

Is this sentence actually correct?

First, the article says, that the unique robot isn't required to save humans, as one of it's three laws was modified. The robot is allowed to stand by and watch humans be harmed. So, why would the robot make any move at all to save her? (contradiction)

Second, the robot was apparently trained to identify different types of rays, and presumptively could identify which rays were harmless to humans too. So, why would a robot attempt to save her from infrared rays which it knew to be harmless to humans? (illogical)

I suspect that this sentence was rather poorly phrased so that it reads incorrectly to someone who hasn't read the story.
