Coordinates[edit]

It would be a good idea to convert the list to a table, and add a column for coordinates, using {{coord}}. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 20:18, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am not so sure the present flurry of flags is preferable over the plain list. --dab (𒁳) 22:27, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
for consistency why only internal waters but not territorial seasEgull (talk) 02:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
for uniformity why not restrict the list to the tripoints of united nations member statesEgull (talk) 02:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
for neutrality why not alphabetize the list & the components of each tripoint in the list by iso3166 country codes rather than by english namesEgull (talk) 02:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

noteworthy?[edit]

What makes a tripoint noteworthy? I would like to see a complete list here. --Lasunncty (talk) 22:57, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I completed the list myself. Let me know if there are any questions, suggestions, etc. --Lasunncty (talk) 23:17, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thre are to few tripoints with name. And many names such as Visviri are used only in one country.Dentren | Talk 17:51, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

3 columns[edit]

The list should be sortable by country. Currently, to find out all tripoints of Country A, one needs to sort the list by all the columns, as they are spread through all of them. Each column (and certainly the first!) should provide a comprehensive list of tripoints.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:06, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it would be nice to be able to sort them that way, but I can't think of a way to do it without listing each tripoint three times.--Lasunncty (talk) 09:14, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We should divide the list by continent. It would make it easier to find a particular tripoint.--BIL (talk) 08:56, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The list is sortable by region. Is that not what you mean? --Lasunncty (talk) 09:14, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Historical tripoints[edit]

What about historical tripoints, such as the Three Emperors' Corner? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:06, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thanxxx for all your endeavors on behalf of this important topic[edit]

here is a list of all the world class trijunctions in the world of which the great majority are tripoints [[1]] recently submitted to the 477 members of the int boundaries list of the international boundaries research unit at the u of durham in england & saluted by the worlds leading authority with a nomination for an honorary degree

its encyclopedic approach is to subsume tripoints along with trilines & triareas in the master category of trijunctions but in any case its tripoint count is higher & therefore at least apparently more inclusive than the present collection here

also better illustrated etc

& it obviates many of the concerns expressed below

but it cant be easily integrated into the present setup

perhaps it could be the basis for a separate article entitled boundary & territorial trijunctions if that would not be in conflict with the present one

Cleanup needed[edit]

I first tried to fix the incorrectly sorting table by replacing the Dhekelia wikitext with Template:DHE, but that did not work. Then I noticed that the list does not define an inclusion criteria: "country" is poorly defined. ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 gives three letter codes for "countries, dependent territories, and special areas of geographical interest" but does not include all territories. Notably, Dhekelia is missing. I don't know whether any other territories exist that could create tripoints, but either the article needs to state "countries and special territories", or else Dhekelia should be removed. As to the broken table sorting, a wikitable expert is needed. 84user (talk) 22:51, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What sorting problem do you see? I have reverted the change to use the non-standard flag template, and on my browser (IE 7.0), I still do not see any mis-sorted entries. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 18:44, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I have just tested the article as a not-logged in user on Vista-based browsers Opera 9.63, Google Chrome 3.0.195.1 (a recent developer beta version), Safari 3.2.1 (525.27.1), Netscape 9.0.0.6 (to simulate what old-version Mozilla users experience) and Firefox 3.5.1 (I had tested using 3.0 above). All browsers behaved the same way. The results are:

  • Name sorts Ok
  • Country1 sorts Ok
  • Country2 fails: Dhekelia before Azerbaijan
  • Country3 fails: West Bank before Chad
  • Region sorts Ok
  • Neither Image nor Coordinates sort in any meaningful way. This looks hard to fix, maybe remove the sort for those columns?

Completeness[edit]

the present claim of completeness is questionable to say the least

but the article is strange also in the way it is organized & presented as others have also suggested

a truly complete & well formatted assemblage of all the intended data actually does already exist elsewhere [2]

& it could easily be imported in full or perhaps adapted bit by bit so as to fit in here

yet who could take responsibility for integrating it in all details with the present setup or for simply dropping the present setup entirely in favor of the needed fresh start —Preceding unsigned comment added by Egull (talk • contribs) 00:04, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The page you mention is probably not a reliable source. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 00:16, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusin of Kosovo[edit]

If Kosovo is going to be included then it would need a explanatory note since kosovo is not widely recognised. Dentren | Talk 19:28, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lake Constance is not really a tripoint![edit]

The national boundaries in the lake (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) have never been defined exactly. The result is, that there is no exact point, where the borders meet in the lake.Johnny2323 (talk) 10:14, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
