Busiest city[edit]

I have removed a paragraph from an anonymous contributor claiming that Montreal was the busiest city by aircraft movements by comparing Mirabel and Trudeau (and presumably, St. Hubert) combined against Pearson -- the numbers simply don't add up. Pearson and Buttonville alone have significantly more traffic than Trudeau, St-Hubert, and Mirabel combined. David 13:40, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

2004 Numbers[edit]

I have restored 2004 numbers for passenger movements. 2005 numbers were added by user, 70.81.177.216, in late 2005 (before official number could possibly have become available) and were NOT REFERENCED. These numbers do not match any official documentation that I have seen and do not match projections either. I think it is best not to get ahead of ourselves and not post data from "the future". At least, not without MAKING IT CLEAR THAT THEY ARE ONLY ESTIMATES. I think that these numbers should not be updated before accurate 2005 numbers come available. --Tyson2k 06:34, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Movement breakdown[edit]

Is there any interest in a further breakdown of aircraft movements? What I am referring to is the difference between itinerant and local movements from the TP577. With them you get:

Many of the stats are out of date. They should be updated with the Annual Report, not the Preliminary. [1]

Calgary vs Montreal[edit]

I don't see how we are considering YUL as busier than YYC in 2008. Based on the number provided by Montreal Airport in their latest statistics release, they had less passengers than Calgary in 2008. I know that that article says otherwise, but I don't think the ranking should be changed until Montreal officially publishes its exact numbers for 2008, if that story is even true.

Furthermore, Airports Council International ranks YYC ahead of YUL.[2] Thankyoubaby (talk) 04:46, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stats[edit]

The stats for 2009 don't seem to be correct. YYZ is listed at 28 million passengers, but actually the figure is 30 million passengers according to YYZ's website. Same for all other airports. Check with each airport's website. FlyAirCanada (talk) 14:23, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The stats are correct. They are sourced from here. By using one single source for them it becomes much easier, and slightly more accurate, to compare. The different airport articles on here and all other websites display numbers from the Airport website. This is the only place where I have seen numbers from Statscan. It's better to use numbers from a single source, which is the airport website so people don't get confused. FlyAirCanada (talk) 16:47, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The airport articles uses the airport figures for passengers because they tend to be available sooner than the StatsCan numbers. However the same articles use the StatsCan numbers for aircraft movements. They are used because there is a wider range of airports available and it is better for comparisons to have the same source for all figures. During most of the year the figures for only the top ten (mainly because not all the other 10 are available from the airport) are sourced from the airports site. By using one source here you can make a better comparison from one airport to another without wondering what criteria each airport used to count the passengers. In a few weeks I expect that the preliminary figures for 2010 will start to appear, both here and in the airport articles and I see that Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport already has the 2010 numbers. So this page will be the only one with any 2009 numbers at all which means that sourcing it to one page is easier as in some cases the sources for 2009 from each airport may get moved or vanish. Because the numbers are from YYZ's and YVR's websites and have been revised. The numbers on the YYZ and YVR articles here are not updated. And all of the airports display their passenger numbers from the 5-10 years so I dont know why you want still use numbers from Statscan. All news reports, charts, etc. display 30 million passengers for YYZ 2009, not 28 million. I have never seen any news article or anything where Statscan numbers are reported. Even on GTAA's website, 30 million is reported for 2009. Even if the 2009 numbers on airport articles are only displayed for 1 year, it still a long time and people get confused as they see 30 million on the YYZ article and 28 million here for 1 year. It does make sense. By using one sourced for all the airports you can compare one with another. If each airport uses the its own numbers then you can't compare them due to not knowing what standards each has used.
